The wind blew unto the dense forest. Dried Leaves join the wind in dancing. The cold wind hit the four, it made their spines feel shivers. Neveah hugged herself in the eerie atmosphere. The dense forest made Neveah scared shitless. Lucas who was uncomfortable at the voice that he heard was staring intently into the forest. ‘What was that?’ He felt something in his body. The familiar warmth in his chest. Something echoed in the forest as if greeting the newly arrived group. The three flinched.
“Okay, No-no-Bye!” Neveah exclaimed opening the car door but Damian grabbed her arms. Neveah tried to remove it.
“Were already here there’s no turning back.” He said. Neveah’s eyes were filled with fear and Damian’s eyes were filled with determination. Both of them stared at each other, conversing with their eyes. Lucas and Larcade stared at their voiceless conversation. Neveah keeps shaking her head saying no but Damian reply with a nod in his head.
“Okay fine!” Neveah said giving up. All of them took their materials and carry them on their back. Before entering the forest, Lucas parked his car safely. The leaves and twigs made a sound as they enter the forest. Neveah clings his arms to Lucas, hiding behind him. Lucas just let the scared girl be, too focused on what’s ahead of them.
They walk for hours. Damian was in front of the three guiding them to the path. The sun has already hidden and the moon appears. The forest has become a silent sanctuary. Neveah’s fear goes up when the light of day has finally gone.
“Damian!” Neveah runs to the said guy and clings to his arm. Damian slightly flinched, surprised again at Neveah’s close proximity.
“What?” He said annoyed.
“Let’s just find a safe place to camp for the night!” She said while hugging Damian’s arms, looking left and right. Even the slightest sound can make Neveah faint because of fear.
Damian took into his surrounding as much he want to look for the creatures taking into consideration of his companion’s welfare, they should be his first priority. All of them found a nice area in the forest. They settled in and build their tents. Lucas building the tent on his own while Neveah and Larcade are making dinner.
“Can someone help me, please?” Lucas called out holding some sort of stick. Damian who was staring at the forest panned his head to Lucas who was struggling. Damian watch for a second and raised his arms. All the material suddenly levitates. Lucas’s jaw dropped as all of the things help themselves and made it into a perfect tent. Lucas stood there for a moment before looking at Damian,
“Thank you,” Lucas said. Damian did not know if it was sarcastic or a genuine one. All of them settled out in a chair they bought, surrounding the campfire that Lucas made. Lucas almost burned the forest down because of his power but luckily Damian was there to put out the fire. They ate and when they felt tired they began to go into their personal tents that Neveah suggested having because she doesn’t want to be in the same space as those three.
Neveah and Damian decided to just let them get their sleep. Neveah adjusted the ambiance of the forest and it made her feel calm on the inside. The stars and the moon were visible enough. Neveah panned her head in Damian’s direction. He was petting the Maine coon who was sleeping beside him. Neveah wanted to say something to him but she was hesitant. ‘Just--- whatever’
“Hey.” She called out to him to which Damian responded by looking at her. The moment their eyes locked Neveah felt her face flushed to embarrass to continue. Damian saw her facial expression and raised one of his brows. He was feeling crept up by her.
“Thank you,” She said after regaining her composure. Damian tilts his head confused.
“For?”
“Helping me back there. I was having a panic attack when I saw Larcade with blood on his head," She paused for a second. She accidentally recalls her cousin unconscious in a flipped car. Her hands trembled and she hold it in. The scene made her remember the traumatic experience she had 15 years ago.
“ No, I’m just doing what I had to do,” Damian said taking his eyes away from Neveah.
“But, still. This whole situation has become so chaotic. I only realize it when two of the important people in my life almost lost their lives.” Neveah said his eyes filled with sorrow.
“I may act like everything is fine and joke around but I’m incredibly guilty for my actions. I force Lucas to join us even if he doesn’t like it just because of my own selfishness.” She continued.
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” Neveah glance at him. Damian who was leaning his head on his arms looks at her. ‘Yes you did’
“However, he seems glad about it. Having a friend who is always by your side is enough. Both of you have the same differences, it makes the two of you compatible. And, annoying.” Damian replies in which surprised Neveah. She then glared when she realized that the demon find it annoying.
“Anyways this whole thing has become awkward,” The poor girl tried to change the subject. Both of their faces was tinted red, embarrassed by the whole sincere talk.
“So, how did you become a student of the former sorcerer?” Neveah said cupping her cheeks anticipating Damian’s answer like a child. Damian looked at her before sighing.
“And why should I tell you?” Damian replied that making a scowl on Neveah’s face.
“You’re an a-hole. Now, tell me.” Neveah scoot near him. Damian scoot away from her,
He ignored Neveah's request and amused himself by staring at the leaves of the tall trees but he can feel Neveah on his side still waiting for him. Damian sighed again. He suddenly recalled the time where Isis saved him from her fellow sorcerers.
“Demons are beings that are insignificant in the sorcerer world.” He started. Neveah sat beside him listening intently.
.
“They were treated as low lives. A filth that you eradicate the moment you laid eyes on it.”
“I thought Demons are powerful because, yeah, since they’re demons?” Neveah said in confusion. Damian stared at her dumbfounded. "I mean all my life, I read stories and heard ones that Demons are cunning and dangerous beings that you should never encounter," Neveah explained.
"I guess, since humans are just ordinary beings, I can't blame the sorcerers for being too arrogant because they have powers," Damian was slightly amused. He knows that no one can describe sorcerers as arrogant beings since they were viewed as a powerful merciful entities.
A slight smile popped into Damian's face. Neveah saw this and began teasing him. Damian who can't stand her sighed.
“Just go to sleep.” He said he touched Neveah’s forehead and it made her fall asleep immediately. Damian caught her before she could make contact with the ground. He carry her in his arms and laid her carefully in the tent.
He sat again in his former position deciding to guard for the night. He accidentally closes his eyelids and drifts off to sleep.
