Chapter 54: A Buff Kangaroo

Suddenly a shout was heard in a distance. All three of them were alerted and panned their heads in the direction. But their eyes widen especially Larcade as he sees a ball coming straight to him. The entire scene went slow-mo as Larcade readied himself by raising both of his arms expecting the ball to hit him in the face but suddenly a smack was heard. When he opened his eyes an arm was blocking his face. A certain part of that person’s arms was red indicating that he hit his arms with the flying ball. 

“Lucas?”

Larcade said in bewilderment. Everyone present in there had their eyes widen almost getting out of their sockets. The sudden appearance of the said man socked them. And, it surprised them the most because he appeared at the right time to save Larcade from the ball. The gym teacher panicked as he realized the redness on Lucas’s arms. “Lucas--”

Her sentence was cut off by Neveah who was frantically running to her cousin. Axel, Larcade, and even the gym teacher and Lucas panned their heads to the worried Neveah. The girl immediately went and approached Larcade, holding him in both of his arms as she scans if Larcade was hurt. Larcade was about to inform his cousin that he was alright but Neveah suddenly hugs her tight. Axel, Lucas just stare at the scene in front of them. “Thank goodness you're fine.” 

She sighed in relief. Larcade smile at her actions, “I'm fine you do not need to worry.” Both of them pulled off the hug. Larcade smiled at his cousin hoping that he could ease her. Neveah returned his smile with a relief expression not until it drastically changed into anger. She then snapped her head in the direction of her classmates. “Nicole!” She growled in anger and all of them went dead silent as Neveah approached the said girl. Nicole panic and saw Neveah walking towards her, “What?! It was an accident!” She reasoned while backing away. “You clearly meant it!” Neveah retorted back.

A while ago when everyone was readying themselves to play. Neveah was assigned to the other team while the said girl Nicole was assigned to be their opponent. Seeing that Neveah and her team were winning Nicole thought with a plan. Nicole provokes Neveah by making her angry. It wasn’t taken in by Neveah but the moment Nicole insulted and tease Neveah that he would hit the ball in the direction of Larcade sitting on the bench, Neveah was feeling annoyed. It also didn’t help since Nicole tease about how weak and wimp Larcade was. Neveah did not take her seriously this agitates Nicole and eventually hits the ball in Larade’s direction. This resulted in the present situation.

Larcade panics and stops his cousin from doing what he was about to do. Axel also approached the fuming Neveah and their gym teacher trying to calm the girl down. Their class was stopped because of the commotion Neveah made. Lucas stood there blankly. He stares at the commotion and then focuses his attention on Neveah. ‘I thought he was a wimpy girl turns out she is also a rampaging kangaroo,’ Lucas thought. He sighed and walks away. He doesn't want to get into the commotion knowing that if he does he would be blamed for it. I mean if you're known as a delinquent everyone would see you as a bad symbol. Larcade who was pulling Neveah away from Nicole noticed Lucas who walked away but his focus was broken when Neveah accidentally hit him in the elbow. 

The pain excruciates in Larcade’s entire body. He fell down clutching his stomach. The commotion died down as all of them paused and watch Larcade fall. This made Neveah scream in worry. With the help of Axel, they brought him to the school’s infirmary. All of them forget how Neveah burst into anger on Nicole. Their gym teacher suspend the class halfway and let them go back to their classrooms. Larcade was lying in the infirmary bed while Neveah and Axel cried beside him. Larcade had a blank expression as he heard Neveah’s cries. “Do I look dead to you?” He asked his voice monotone as he stares at the ceiling refusing to lay his eyes on them. 

As they heard what Larcade said they immediately stops and whip their non-existent tears. “Seriously?” Larcade asked as he sit up. “I’m fine why am I here?” Larcade said as he was about to remove himself from the bed but Neveah and Axel stops him. “Guys,” He said as he stared a the two. “We’re still going to call the ambulance to x-ray you,” Neveah said as he touch where he elbowed Larcade. The said guy slaps her hand. “You really think that you could hit me enough to break my ribs?” Larcade asked her with a blank expression. “Yes!” Both, Axel and Neveah said even though the question is just for the girl. 

“Why are you in beef with Nicole anyways?” Larcade asks as he sits himself in a comfortable way. “Who knows? that girl always wants my attention.” She said with her arms crossed. Thinking about Nicole made her frown and cringe in disgust. Neveah chuckled because of her reaction. Suddenly he remembers Lucas and the incident where he saved him. “Have you seen Lucas?” Larcade asks the both of them and they seem to look at him in bewilderment. “Why are you looking for him?” Axel asks. His face full contoured with an expression that said he was serious. They were surprised and curious why he was looking for the guy. “He was hurt when he saved that ball that was supposed to hit me. I wanted to thank him at least. Well not directly from me,” He said while pursing his lips. 

“What do you mean by that?” Neveah asks while sitting on his bed. Larcade grinds his teeth before answering. “I would like to ask you formally to send my thanks to the person that stopped the ball from hitting me,” He said in seriousness after he regained his composure. Both of them looked at him with empty eyes. “You s**t,” Neveah said after a moment of silence. After their conversation with Larcade all of them were advised to get back to their classes since the school was about to end by the nurse. After checking Larcade one last time the nurse shoos them away. After then they went home.

Neveah bid farewell to Axel. And the three of them went separate ways. Both cousins were now in their neighborhood walking to their houses. Neveah and Larcade were laughing as Neveah tells him a funny story she experienced with Nicole. Both of them were laughing so hard until they bump into someone expected. Neveah gulps and Larcade halts. A familiar height with black hair was standing in front of them at a safe distance. Both of them did not expect to see him while their walking home. Both of them were surprised to see him in their neighborhood. Neveah's mind thought that the guy might follow them from school. But she suddenly realized that they did nothing wrong to anger him except on the time where she classes him a rampaging gorilla but still that is not an excuse to hold a grudge, 'or is it not?' He was wearing a tracksuit, sleeves rolled up.

Larcade notice his hand patched up on the part where he hit his arms on the ball and felt guilty somehow. Lucas noticed it and hid his patch with his sleeves. Larcade was surprised and glance at Lucas but the latter was just standing there like he did not do something. All three of them stood in the middle of the road in pure silence. No one dared to pass by one another or say a single word; they just stood there as if they were a mannequin. Suddenly a kid was running in their direction and stopped beside Lucas. Neveah and Larcade snapped their head at the little boy. Lucas look down at his brother and noticed that he just arrived back from school. And, then another kid about the same height as the boy beside Lucas came running towards Larcade from behind. 

“Lar!” He shouted wanting to surprise his brother but he was dismayed when he saw a disappointing reaction coming from his older brother. Neveah stands in between them as he observes the two kids with the same height and somehow the same grade level. She concluded that both of them are cute. “Lucas! Let’s go I’m hungry!” Lucas’s little brother said as he clings onto his arms. Calypso, Larcade's little brother stares at the scene and unconsciously puts his arms on Larcade’s hand. This made Larcade chuckle silently at the actions of his brother. Neveah saw it all and tease Calypso that making him retract back his hand. Larcade give her a side-eyed which made her say a quiet sorry. 

Lucas and Larcade caught eyes with one another. This made Larcade slightly flinch. Lucas nod and turn his body and walk home holding his brother in his hands. All three who were left stared and followed Lucas. The said guy was smiling genuinely as he listens to his brother’s story. They watch as they arrived on their house. “That doesn’t seem like the Lucas we knew,” Larcade blurted out. “Yup, he definitely has a brother complex,” Neveah ended his sentence.
