Chapter 8

|Court Day|

Buttoning up my shirt the kids walk in the room and sit on the bed.

"Daddy why you wearing a suit". Josiah asked as they took a seat on the bed.

"I got to go to court". I said looking back at them through the mirror.

"What you do daddy you going to jail". Alyssa asked as they both stared at me.

"No you know why cause daddy don't do things that will land him there and take him away from y'all". I said causing them both to smile.

"Y'all gone have fun at Lailas moms house". I ask putting on my jacket and buttoning it up.

"Yea but why can't we go with you". Alyssa said and Josiah nudged her shoulder.

"Alyssa what I tell you about that". I ask with a stern voice.

"We not supposed to question you because you're the adult she just forgot daddy right Alyssa". He said and she nodded.

"Go get y'all stuff so I can drop y'all off". I said turning back around to put my watch on as they walked out.

I try be fun and let them be kids but at the same time they need to know I'm not their friend.

Picking up my phone I slip it in my pocket and walked out of the room.

"Alyssa and Josiah lets go". I called out and they came from the back.

Walking out the door they ran to the car while I locked up. Getting in the car I start it up and drive off towards Lailas mother's house.

|Lailas moms house|

Walking them up to the door I let Josiah knock. The door opened with Laila and her mom standing there smiling.

"Hey sweetheart". Her mom said giving me a hug before talking to the kids and walking off.

"You ready". Laila asked as we walked to the car.

"No but I got to get ready for those kids in there". I said starting the car up.

|Court house|

Right now I was sitting with my lawyer going over a few paperwork.

"Let's get started". The judge said and Marandas lawyer stood up.

"My client here thinks Mr. Carter is not fit to take care of their two children his job is also very dangerous". He said causing me to scrunch up my face.

"What the f**k does my job have to do with anything". I lean over asking my lawyer and he shook his head.

"Valerie to the stand". The judge said and this girl that I've never seen before walked up to the stand and sat down.

"So how would you describe Marandas relationship with Mr.Carter". Her lawyer asked walking back and forth.

"He was very abusive physically and verbally". She said sadly looking down.

"What the f**k". I blurted out with a confused look on my face.

"Mr. Smith please control your client". The judge said looking over at me.

"Dude be chill". He said and I nodded leaning back into my seat.

"Have you been there to actually witness this abuse". He asked and she nodded.

"One time I went to drop something off to her and he was slapping her around while she was pregnant". She said causing my eyes to go wide.

Hell no I didn't even know this b***h was pregnant and we never stayed together.

"Do you have any police reports of the incidents". The Judge asked looking over at Maranda.

"No your honor". She said causing me to smile.

I knew she ain't have s**t on me.

|The verdict|

"I don't see any reason as to why Mr. Carter cannot continue to raise his kids like he's been doing for the past 7 years so I will grant him full custody and Ms. long has visitation on the weekends". He said slamming the gavel and I jumped up hugging Eric before hugging Laila.

Walking out of the court room I walk over to Maranda.

"Why did you do this s**t". I ask but she wouldn't talk to me.

Shaking my head I walk off and get in the car with Laila. She grabs my hand kissing it as I drive off from the court house.

Time to go get my kids man...
