CHAPTER FOURTEEN “Stop him!” a woman’s voice cried out. Carly couldn’t see through the pitch darkness that surrounded her. “Stop who?” she replied. “Stop him!” the voice repeated. Carly took an unsteady, stumbling step into the darkness. She tried to feel her way with her hands, but she came into contact with nothing tangible. “Where are you?” she called out. “Who are you? I want to help.” “Stop him!” the voice said yet again, sounding tearful and terrified. Then Carly realized that she was dreaming—lucid dreaming, when a person becomes aware that they are dreaming then continues with the dream. It happened to Carly occasionally, and it when it did messages came through stronger. One of the victims must be trying hard to contact me, Carly realized. But she could still see nothing
