"Damn it!" Brenda hissed placing both fingers on her temple as she shut the door behind her.
"What's the matter?" Alexa asked popping her head out of her opened room.
"I left my purse back there at the ice cream shop" Brenda replied panicking.
"We'll go get it tomorrow, it's already quite late now" Alexa replied showing concern.
"I can't. My golden ticket to the finals tomorrow is in there" Brenda informed her with a shaky voice.
"Oh no" Alexa replied also now worried.
"I'm going back for it, I really just hope I find it" Brenda informed her turning to unlock the door.
"Wait... I'm coming with you" Alexa called out.
"You don't have to, I won't be long okay?" Brenda replied waving her off.
"There's no way I'm letting you go back there all by yourself." Alexa bit back.
"Where's Valerie?" Brenda asked turning the subject.
"She's fast asleep" Alexa simply replied.
"You can't possibly come along with me and leave her asleep all alone that wouldn't be....." Brenda began
"You're not talking me out of this one Brie, I'm coming with you and that's final" Alexa interjected drawing up her undebatable conclusion.
"Besides she's gonna be fine, this whole place is as secure as a prison cell." She added in a serious tone.
"Alright fine, let's go" Brenda agreed knowing fully well Alexa wouldn't let her win this argument and besides the more she stood arguing with her, the more the clock ticks away.
"Chill, I need to grab my sweater, I'll be right back" Alexa replied while Brenda simply nodded in response as she dashed into her room and snatched her sweater.
"Okay let's go" She announced returning and forcing the thick fabric over her head as she walked out through the door Brenda held open.
"It was fun hanging with them tonight" Alexa said tracing Brenda's eyes that rested on the brothers block as they passed by.
"Yeah" Brenda admitted dragging her eyes to the neat concrete floor in a failed attempt to hide the smile that crept up her cheeks.
"I saw him hug you" Alexa stated smirking
"So?" Brenda spat in defense with an amused expression.
"Wait..... Just wait a second, don't tell me you like him?" Alexa questioned with wide eyes.
"Just shut up and get in" Brenda replied as they reached the car rolling her eyes but failed to hide her blush.
"Oh... Poor Randy" Alexa replied as she climbed into the car at the front seat beside Brenda who was strapping her seatbelt on by the driver's seat.
Brenda's cheeks burned a deeper shade of red at the mention of Randy's name as she fumbled to fit in the keys.
"I'm confused" Alexa admitted as she watched her sister turn into a vegetable at the mention of a guy's name after being interested by another few moments back.
"Look I don't know, I don't know" Brenda repeated gently hitting her forehead on the steering wheel.
"So I got a heartbreaking player as an elder sister? Great, totally great." Alexa replied chuckling as she strapped on her own seatbelt receiving a glare from her sister.
"No it's just that......" Brenda began still fumbling with the keys.
"I'll have that" Alexa interrupted snatching the keys from her hand and inserting it properly in one attempt.
"Should I drive instead? Coz I don't get why you're all shaky and stuff" Alexa added rolling her eyes.
"I can drive, I'm fine" Brenda replied.
"I will drive. I'm perfectly fine" She added in a firmer tone adjusting herself to seat upright in her chair.
"And shut your mouth" She added chuckling and pointing an index finger at Alexa.
Alexa Drew an imaginary zipper across her lips and raised up both hands in total surrender as Brenda pulled out of the driveway and they hit the road again for the second time that night.
"Who are those two guys?" Alexa questioned glaring at her side mirror.
"What two guys?" Brenda asked turning briefly to glance at Alexa.
"Behind us" Alexa replied not taking her eyes off the mirror.
"You don't expect me to possibly know who they are" Brenda replied dryly totally unbothered.
"They've been following us since we left the resort Brie, I couldn't help but notice." Alexa informed her turning to look back at the men on a bike riding a few distance behind them.
"Really?" Brenda asked finally peeling her eyes off the road and peered at them from her rear view mirror.
"Yeah" Alexa whispered nodding.
"Hold on, I'll go a bit faster" Brenda replied and sped down the rest of the road till she got to the icecream shop that thankfully was still open.
"We lost them" Brenda announced as they got down from the car and searched the environment for any traces of the unknown bike men.
"That's a relief, for a moment there I got scared" Alexa admitted walking over to Brenda who held out her hand for her as they walked into the store.
"Hello" Brenda greeted pleased to meet the young boy again.
"Hello Miss, I see you left your purse, before I noticed it, you were long gone, I stayed a bit longer just incase you'lld come back for it, I'm so sorry" He apologized handing over the small curvy purse to Brenda.
"Thanks honey" Brenda replied beaming with gratitude as she quickly opened the purse and found it's content intact.
"Here you go honey" Brenda added handing him a few dollar notes from the purse smiling kindly at him.
"You are so kind ma'am" the boy replied showing his appreciation as he accepted the cash.
"We could drop you off by the way home" Brenda offered as they turned to leave.
"Thank you for the offer but I still have a customer left so I'll be leaving once she's done." He declined pointing over to the young girl who sat by the far corner of the small shop sitting all alone.
"Okay then, Bye" Brenda replied waving at him.
"Bye, and thanks" he replied waving the dollar notes at her and smiling genuinely with his bright eyes that were no match for his old worn out clothes.
"Bye" Alexa waved as she followed Brenda out and they got into the car.
"My My.... It's way too cold out here" Brenda complained as she entered back into the car and flung her purse on the dashboard.
"We could make a quick stop by the way for some steaming hot coffee" Alexa suggested buckling herself up on her seat.
"That's fine, but we don't have the leisure of time to drop over for coffee" Brenda replied reversing the car to the road.
"There's something called takeaway" Alexa replied rolling her eyes.
"Tsk..... Whatever" Brenda replied dryly.
"Oh here's a billboard, if it's functional then there should be a coffee shop behind the corner" Brenda announced looking out the window.
"Hurry and go get them, I can't drive into that narrow way" Brenda added turning her gaze at Alexa.
"Okay, I'll be back soon" Alexa nodded taking off her seatbelt.
"Hurry" Brenda called out as she jogged away.
Brenda closed her eyes and rested her head on the headrest of her seat but suddenly flicked her eyes open when a bright light hit her face from the side mirror.
"My goodness, it's those bike guys again, I thought I lost them!" Brenda panicked inwardly with her heart pounding fast as she noticed the men get off the bike.
Her heart pounded faster as she watched them walk towards her direction.
Her heart pounded even faster when they were close enough for her to notice they were both masked.
"Drive away!" A voice in her head urged her.
"I'm not leaving without my sister" She said to herself as she raised up the windows glasses immediately and locked all doors leaving her secured in the vehicle.
"What do they want? Are they robbers?" Brenda asked herself series of questions as her heart raced.
The masked unknown men got to the car and stood by her door, the one up front gave a nod signal to his partner who also nodded in response and began smashing the window with a bat he bought out from nowhere while the other one quickly attached a silencer to his revolver.
"Run!" A voice in her head urged her as he continuously smashed the glass with full force.
She immediately without thinking any further, struggled out of her seat after ripping off her seat belt and climbed over to Alexa's sit, pressed open the door and hurried out of it.
"Alexa!" Brenda called out spotting her figure appearing from behind the corner holding up two cups.
"Oh my goodness" Alexa said to herself as she noticed the two men coming after her sister who was running towards her direction.
She instantly dropped the cups and their contents spilled over on the ground. She ran forward stretching out her hand towards Brenda urging her forward.
And then it happened,
Three bullets came out directed and Brenda and they all hit her straight on different sides of her back and she crashed into Alexa's arms.
Startled and shocked, tears began to run down Alexa's cheeks as she dearly held onto her sister balancing her falling weight on hers as she brought them both to the ground.
"I'm sorry" Brenda managed to whisper struggling to form a smile before her eyes began to dim close.
"No No No" Alexa repeated with a shaky voice as her shirt began to soak with Brenda's blood.
She was so engaged worrying about her sister that she didn't notice the two men walk over to them.
"Yo, what are you doing?" The taller masked man asked his partner when he pulled out his revolver, this time aiming directly at Alexa's head as they approached the girls.
"What does it look like I'm doing? Putting her to sleep." The shorter one who shot Brenda responded looking down and making eye contact with the frightened Alexa.
"Our job here is done. Let's get moving" The taller one scolded.
"She witnessed everything happen, I can't leave her here!" he argued spinning his gun.
"Someone's coming let's go" the taller one urged pulling his partner away as he noticed someone appear from a distance.
The shorter one brushed him off roughly and cast a long cold blooded look at Alexa before they disappeared into the darkness on their bike.
"Brie" Alexa whispered violently shaking Brenda who remained stiff in her arms.
"Please wake up..... Please" She pleaded placing her forehead on Brenda's and crying out loud still holding firmly onto her.
"Look, I'll show you what Jake gave to me at the airport
Oh.... You have a date with Randy this weekend remember? You don't wanna miss that right?
You have a medal to win for mom and dad tommorow just....... Please open your eyes please!" Alexa wailed and pleaded tapping Brenda on her cheeks.
"Miss, what's the matter?" A voice that held great sadness asked.
"Help" Alexa managed to say as she looked up with teary eyes at the young boy from the Icecream shop looking down at their condition at the brink of tears.
He nodded vigorously and pulled out his little cellphone and dialed a number.
"Hello..... This is an emergency!" He barked into his cellphone with urgency as he paced around.
His voice began to fade in Alexa's head as she returned her focus back to Brenda who neither moved an inch nor said a word. Then her eyes fell upon something on the ground just few inches away from her.
She stretched over and scooted it over to her and picked it up, it was a card that held a company logo that had two inversed letter J embodied in a circle.
Alexa recalled something falling from the taller man's jacket as his partner brushed him off.
She held the card with a death grip and dug it deep into her pocket as she heard the sound of sirens and saw many flashes of headlights approach their direction from a distance.
An ambulance pulled over and several health workers rolled out a stretcher and rushed over to pick Brenda while the young boy and an officer helped Alexa up to her feet her white sweatshirt drenched in Brenda's blood.
"Young lady, can you tell us exactly what happened?" The officer inquired holding Alexa by the shoulder while the wide eyed boy held onto her hand looking up to her with a worried expression.
"I think they were attacked by two gun men and her sister got shot" The boy spoke up when Alexa remained silent and just watched her sister get rolled away.
"What direction did they go?" The officer asked him.
"They went that way" the boy informed pointing towards the direction they drove towards.
"What did they look like?" The officer inquired.
"I didn't get a good look I only spotted them from afar but I could tell they were both masked and they had a bike" he immediately responded.
"Officer Jane! You and the boys, Round up the perimeter immediately" he ordered.
"Yes boss" his female colleague replied rushing into her vehicle as she drove away leading a group of three police cars.
The sounds of the sirens began to fade in Alexa's ears and she no longer felt the impact of the blinding headlights on her eyes as the whole world began to spin.
And in that moment......
She passed out.
