Chapter Twenty Two

Alexa's P . O . V Okay, it's official, I hate public transports. I woke up this morning feeling enthusiastic about my trip to Aragon Crescent Scritz, which was about a total of two hours away from the hotel. I could have easily rented a car from the hotel, but I've always wanted to board a bus or a train full of so many people only because I thought it was gonna be fun just like in the movies where someone makes a joke and we all laugh at it or perhaps I get this interesting seatmate who feeds me with mind-blowing tales but it wasn't so. I've been seated beside this lady with a little baby who I thought was cute until he began crying few minutes into the journey and has literally ruined my bright pink vintage shirt with whatever it is babies pour out of their mouths. His mother has apologized severally and tried wiping off the stain which still left a thick map up front. I smiled and told her not to worry, but deep down, I wanted to scream! How would I walk the streets of Scritz covered in baby puke? Tsk. On the other hand of me was an old man who has been asleep through out the entire journey and he keeps resting his head on my shoulder! I can't wait to get off this train! We moved on for a few more depressing minutes till the train came to a stop at the station. I must have startled everyone on board due to the way I dived out the door when it slided open but that didn't matter to me at all. Ah! Fresh air! I inhaled deeply spreading out my arms monk style expressing my relief till I followed behind a large crowd heading towards a narrow path I concluded was the exit. We walked through what felt like a tunnel and busted out in a more civilised area. This part of town really looked business oriented as I walked through the street passing by one firm to another till I reached a cafe that had reflective glass as the front wall and I almost screamed when I took in my appearance. The map on my shirt had turned a deep brown and my hair looked like it hasn't been visited by a comb in days, I looked sweaty and exhausted. My feet were the worst as they looked so dusty as though I was swimming in saw dust up to just below my knee. I walked into the little space between the cafe and the next building to conceal myself and do something about my appearance. I took off my ruined shirt, leaving me just clad in my pink tank top and baggy Jean, then I dusted off my legs with the shirt, removed a mini bottle of water from my bag and sprinkled little water on the edge of the shirt and bent over to wipe my two feet that was visible from my black teddy winter flip flops. I brushed through my hair with my fingers and tucked the locks all over my face behind my ears. I looked around me and found a large waste bin towards the back, I got closer to it and dumped my shirt in and went back into the open. My reflection wasn't bad anymore but it wasn't good either. Well who cares? I'm trying to find some monsters not throw them a beauty show. I continued my walk, following the location on my phone's Google map. When it appeared I had reached my location, I peeled my eyes from my phone and looked up at the building in front of me And there it was, The smaller branch and mall. It was quite huge though nothing compared to my parents building, I smirked with pride at the realization. I looked up with irritation at the stupid logo that has been appearing in my dream for weeks now then I barged into the building without even thinking. Okay, new lesson learnt, never barge into a Mall! If at all you want to, don't do it looking like a lunatic. I inwardly scolded myself wearing a stupid grin as a lot of piercing eyes came in my direction. Most were of older women very well dressed and looking down on me like I was some sorta plague in Human form, How rude. I ignored their glares and walked over to the Salesperson who waved at me from behind the ridiculously huge counter. "You came in to get something, or?" She asked in a soft voice looking at me with amusement. "Uh..... Yeah...." I replied realizing I actually did need a reason for barging in. "How about you buy a Shirt first and put something on!" Another sales girl back out looking at me with disgust evident on her not so pretty face. She was kinda pretty tho, I'm just being petty. "This is A high class Mall, not a dirty fleabag hole you could just barge into shirtless" she added in an annoyed tone. I was about to diss her with a comeback of the century but I was pulled away by her other colleague who initially beckoned me over. "I'm so sorry about what happened back there" she apologized when we got out of her colleague's earshot. "How could she even?.... Does she even have an idea who I am?" I roared annoyed. "I also faced the same dejection when I came, it's still a wonder how I got this job" she explained sitting down on the floor and leaning her back against one shelf of neatly arranged toy cars. "For a moment there, I felt like I had no place in a rich man's world because you could easily get trampled upon." she added beckoning me to sit beside her on the floor. "I don't think a person's financial status should determine how they treat others, I mean that's totally barbaric." I argued sitting beside her and hating the fact that she perceived rich people that way. "I guess you're right, but let's not get into any awkward conversation, I'm Joanna, nice to meet you." She introduced herself smiling genuinely at me. "I'm Uhhhh...... Clara" I replied giving her my middle name that was only known to a few people back home as I still wanted my identity hidden. "Great, now let's get you a shirt to shield you from prying eyes." She said standing up to her feet. "I have an extra shirt back in the locker room, it's quite oversized but I have a feeling it will look good on you" she continued stretching out her hand and helping me up to my feet. What? She was going to give me her shirt? Did I really look like I couldn't afford one of my own? Before I could even protest, I found myself in their locker room. The room was very spacious and held several tall single lockers. "Here" she said handing me a faded pink button down shirt while my eyes were busy scanning the room. "Uhhh.... Thanks?" I managed to say unsure of the right words to use. "C'mon try it on! It will look good on you" she urged pulling me to face a mirror as I reluctantly tried on the shirt. "It says STAFFS ONLY Joanna, what is she doing here?" The lady from before barked as she barged into the locker room her eyes turning red on spotting me. "Lucy for heaven's sake, give the lady some breathing space" Joanna bit back in my defense. "So, Lucy huh? Nice name, you share the same name with my neighbor's dog, now I see why you're so bitchy." I remarked pleased with myself as I glanced over at her stupefied expression from the mirror. I did the last button I was willing to do and turned sharply to leave raising my head high as I reached for the door. I made sure to brush her off with my shoulders as I passed by her causing her to loose balance for a slight second on her cheap wedge boot. I walked out of the door and banged it shut only for it to swing shut almost immediately to reveal an extremely pleased Joanna. "I could definitely use someone like you around here" she beamed offering me a high five which I wasted no time receiving as we both giggled at the little drama with Lucy. "I just really have a problem with nosy people" I replied glaring at the closed door. "There's a Job Vacancy you know" Joanna informed me in a relaxed tone. "We needed an extra Salesperson and the slot just opened few minutes before you stepped in, announcement is yet to be made presently." She added when I wordlessly shot a brow up at her. A job? At Jovenci Corp? A wicked smirk played it's way on my face as a thought crept in, What better way to take someone down than being able to do it from the inside? "So, what do you say? Wanna apply for the job and work with me?" She asked looking up at me in anticipation. "Count me in" I agreed immediately. I didn't plan for this, neither do I want to work with Miss Lucy Shitface but this could actually turn out well. "Come on let's go, I'll take you to the vice president." She informed me as she pulled me back into the Main building and led me into an elevator that took us up to the last floor. We walked through the long hallway until we got to an office that carried a name I didn't bother to read on the door and we walked in after a voice ushered us in after Joanna's soft knocking. "Joanna" An exited deep male voice called out obviously pleased to see her. "Hello Sir, I'm sorry for intruding but I brought in a friend of mine who is applying for the job vacancy" she replied curtly facing the floor and playing with a ball pen I didn't notice she was holding. "I see, what's your name young lady?" He asked glancing up at me from behind his desk in a rich tone. "Uhhhh... Clara. Clara Xavier" I replied simply. Remind me to give Penny a medal someday because not only does she have great taste in food but also in men because damn! This guy was gorgeous.. I stood there watching as he made a call ordering someone into his office. "This is Clara, I find her suitable for the job vacancy, cancel whatsoever announcements if at all any has been made and begin her training immediately. She resumes work on Monday" he ordered to the tall lanky man that came into the office on his command. I'm employed? That was way easier than I thought. Joanna sang a truckload of appreciation as she seemed way happier that I got employed than I actually did. "Shouldn't he have asked a few more questions or asked for something?" I asked Joanna frowning at the fact that the job came too easy. "Shouldn't you be glad he didn't? Besides it's nothing too significant, it's just a salesperson so I don't think it matters that much" Joanna explained while I just shrugged in response. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow then, I've been away from my post for quite long" she added halting in her steps as we were back to the ground floor. "It was really nice meeting you" I confessed sincerely. "Same here, it was kinda weird how it started but I do love your company" she replied smiling at me. "Alright, see you tomorrow" I said waving slightly before I turned to leave. "Oh, your shirt, should I..???" I began remembering the shirt didn't belong to me. "You can keep it" She said softly cutting me off. "Well, thanks" I said before turning to leave again. "9:00 AM, don't be late" she called out as she stepped behind the counter and Lucy was still nowhere within sight. I nodded in response and flashed her a wide smile before I continued my journey towards the door. I walked out of the building and replayed all that just happened. It happened all so fast it almost didn't feel real. I never had a plan when I walked in here, but a plan is unfolding on its own. I'm so loving the way it's going. I glanced up at the stupid logo and smirked. GAME ON.
