We traveled part of the way in sepulchral silence. We drove fast-to make up for the time we'd spent showering, cooking, and buying rings. Even though we'd gotten there pretty quickly, Cole insisted that the farther we got from the city, the better for us. I said goodbye to the houses flying by, the people.
