How To Convince An Immortal

1030 Words
The night went on with people dancing, chatting and sipping wine, but there was one sentence on their lips…where was the groom? Time passed as the silent whispers became more audible; people turned to look at the pale princess in pity, or scorn. They were shocked that someone agreed to take her as a bride. They were more shocked to see the exquisite celebration held .... That meant he was someone of great importance .... or someone that doesn't exist. “Maybe he changed his mind…. After all, who would want to marry a burden?” “I feel he never existed in the first place. The royal family just wanted to make a fool of us." “Perhaps the first princess felt too pitiful and made the king makeup a wedding for her…. Tch…shameless.” Rumors and giggles were best taken with red wine. The king grew afraid…what if it was all a lie….how the message was passed did seem fishy. He was just desperate to marry off his first daughter; he clung to a straw. The enchanted monarchs stepped forward as they gave a bow to the king. “Your Majesty…. It's almost after midnight……. We have seen no groom.” The whispers became louder as Aria's face went sour. Was she going to be left at the altar? The second princess stepped out and gave a small bow to the enchanted. “The kingdom is rowdy…... perhaps he is just running late.” “But....second princess…. We've been dancing for hours, has the throne deceived us?” Their tone became heavier. “My older sister is sick…maybe the groom….” Suddenly there was commotion heard at the entrance of the castle. Knights trooped in as they bowed fearfully to look at the king. “Speak.” He thundered as the hall erupted with noise. “It's the…. The demons.” Suddenly everyone felt a cold shiver down their spine as a sudden cold breeze filled the room. The crowd was divided into two and at the entrance an army of pure demons stood. A figure strolled in the middle of the army with pure white hair that fell to his neck, with a few strands covering his eyes. The gold eyes peeked through the white hair. He was very tall and dressed in a kingly black and silver robe that flowed to the ground. He looked like he just came out of a novel…....or from hell. Walking towards the throne, the second princess almost fell due to shock. “A divine being…” She whispered as she couldn't believe it. The king stood pale on the throne, then took a few steps down, meeting the demon halfway. “Are you the groom?” The mysterious man's eyes lazily looked at the king before setting his eyes on the pale girl on the throne .... That was his bride. The king was met with silence as he hurriedly cleared his throat due to the awkwardness. “Welcome to the Kingdom of The Witches, this is NightVeil.” The king announced as the mysterious man finally looked at him again. He hummed in acknowledgment. The king, hearing his reply, hurriedly pointed to his seat. “Play the music, the groom has arrived.” The orchestra immediately started playing as the crowd started wide-eyed at the couple on the throne. Everyone asked the same question ‘How did the king get a god to betroth his sickly daughter?’ They thought at best she would get a monarch, and she wouldn't be the first wife. They wore their best clothes to laugh at the throne, so what was going on? The monarchs gathered, so did the chancellors, the council and basically every group in the hall. They couldn't believe it. Was this meant to be a mistake of some sort? “I wonder if they wanted to get rid of the rumors. That's why they brought in a divine being. “But if they wanted to cancel the rumors, they could have used a monarch…. How do you convince a divine being? “The divine being looks somewhat familiar…. I don't know how to point my finger at it. “Don't talk nonsense…. It's almost impossible to see a demon, less one that dresses like a king.” The crowd could not stop talking…. Nothing made sense. “May I get your attention everyone?” The chief commander of the witches stepped forward. He turned his back and faced the throne as he gave a bow to the king and queen. He gave one to the second princess and turned to the first princess. He gave her a little bow as he faced the demon king. He stopped and debated if he was to bow or not. Slowly his head bent in respect of the divine being. He turned back to the crowd. “The first princess will get married today and somehow it gets better.” He chuckled. “Today makes it the first marriage in the century between an enchanted and an immortal.” The crowd cheered as the announcement was made. Truly it was an amazing feat. Aria's hands turned cold…. Her father sold her off to an immortal. She slowly turned her head to meet the divine being’s face; his eyes immediately caught her own as she immediately turned her face away. His energy was so dark that it was making her dizzy just feeling it. “The traditions may begin.” He announced that the music immediately changed. The first princess stood up as she knelt before her father. The king raised her up and took her to the middle of the ballroom, where she knelt again. It was tradition that her hair would be tied in a bun by her father to show that she had never been marked before. Her hair was raised as her white neck was shown to the crowd. An official stepped forward to examine it, then he turned to the crowd to bow. “She is clean.” The hall cheered as her hair was let down immediately. “Now she has to perform a dance for her groom.”
