"If you can't find a Luna by the next full moon you must have a temporary Luna take place! " These men sitting in front of me are part of my pack but the words spitting out of their mouths are only for their benefit. I'm disgusted by them and it shows on my face.
I'm sitting in my office contemplating what I should do with them, or even to them. To openly defy me like this is something they try to do every so often. An Alpha is only so strong without his Luna. As werewolves customs have been brought down for centuries and even something I can't go against. I sigh at the disappointing fact that they are right.
I tap my fingers on my desk as I stare at them, not listening to what they have to say but waiting for them to finish their nonsense... "so.. that's why I think.. you should take my daughter as the next Luna.." Tim Weaver asks me. He is one of the leading men in the council. I understood that was his plan from the beginning, his tramp of a daughter who will sleep with anyone who has an ounce of power. my frown deepens. I say unenthusiastic, "You are correct Mr. Weaver..." I see his eyes light up in excitement. "BUT I will take a Luna I see fit." I cunningly smile at him, looking him straight in the eyes, using my alpha powers asking, no begging him to go against me so I can snap his neck.
"Yes-yes, Alpha you are correct," Mr. Weaver stutters out trying to cover up his blatancy while looking away. "I know you are a busy Alpha so we will leave... if you see fit." They all bow down to me not daring to look up. I swivel my black leather chair around and look outside without saying a word. I wave my wrist for them to go without wanting to waste another word on them.
Being a werewolf has it's perks, Our life span is four times greater than any human, superhuman strength, some have abilities, among other things. The downfall is you're supposed to find your mate after your 18th birthday based on smell. How can anyone find their ONE fated mate in this whole world based on smell. I groan in disgust. I will never be a true alpha for my pack until I have my luna, the full extent of our powers are not unleashed until we find our mate.
I get up from my chair and go to the book shelf I have on the side of the wall. I've been reading books about witches who will help find your mates, but they are far and few in between. Witches cannot see werewolves, they cannot track them nor see them in a vision. Let's just say I have my work cut out for me. I pray a little to the moon goddess to give me strength. I hear a knock on the door..
"Come In."
I travel back to my seat completely focused on my book.
My beta walks in, "I heard what just happened with the council members, sorry I wasn't here to back you up. We keep finding more and more rogues by the day seeking asylum from other packs. It's starting to become too much for the pack to handle, we might have to start sending them to different packs." my Beta says.
I look up at him, finally closing my book. My betas name is Henry Vaugh, he's yet to find his mate as well. I'm fortunate to have him with me as my beta, the second strongest in the pack. I really look at Henry, deep grey eyes , blonde hair, tall and a little bulky, but if anyone looked at him they would think he was a model with his facial features.
"it's okay Henry, even if you were here the situation would have been the same. It's something I've put off as long as I can. When I find my Luna I don't want her authority to be with someone else. I don't want her to think differently." I sigh once again realizing I've been doing that a lot lately.
"Henry let's go to the training grounds for now. I need to let off some steam and it seems like you do too."
"Nice I get to spar with the alpha again?!" Henry gives me his cheeky smile and I can't help but chuckle.
"Yeah you get to spar with your alpha and get your ass kicked is what's going to happen."
It doesn't take long to get to the training grounds. Behind the pack house is the training grounds for all of our pack, so others are gathered around to use it. Everyone sees us coming and I can tell they want to see what we're going to do, but also they don't want to make it too obvious. Henry and I stand in the circle readying ourselves for this fight. Fighting Henry is different from fighting the rest of the pack, he puts himself out there and fights like it's his last.
"Are you ready to fight? First one out of the ring loses and buys dinner." I say almost a growl. Henry nods to confirm. I slide my foot out and get into my fighting pose, letting my alpha instincts kick in. I can feel my eyes turning and my hearing getting sharper, my wolf howls in anticipation. He's ready for the battle, even though he knows it's just a spar session. My hands stretch out into the claws of my wolf and I lunge towards my opponent. he dodges under my right shoulder and goes to attack my back with his left claw. I throw my arms down to the ground and kick my legs up. grabbing his arm in between my legs and throwing him like a sack of potatoes. He goes flying out of the ring. smacking into the assortment of weapons and shields we have, making them fly everywhere in each direction.
I chuckle, as I straighten my shirt up and dust my clothes off. I walk over to him and offer my hand for him to get up. he looks up at me. and half-heartedly laughs, he grabs my hand and says, "Hey now. Now that wasn't very fair. I was off my game today."
"but you still owe me dinner!" I give him my cheese eating grin.
"HOWLLLL!"
We all turn our heads to the direction of the forest, the warning call for our pack to hear. I mind link with the patrol,
'what's going on?'
'Boss we're being attacked by the demon fae! Argh-.' the mind link was cut off and instantly could feel the loss of a pack member.
"Grab your weapons!" I yell at the rest of the pack, "Get ready to fight!"
