Chapter 8 Julien

As we head towards the pack house I can feel the loss of the pack member deepen. Her mate is already here and he knows that his mate is gone. When you are completely mated you will have what is called a mate bond. You will be able to feel each other's emotions and you can talk to each other via mind link without having to go through the alpha mind link. Your powers deepen and sometimes you can share each other's abilities. Your abilities only awaken after finding your mate, and if you lose your mate you have a chance of losing your abilities as well.

I look up to see a man running towards us, "Ron... I'm sorry I couldn't protect her.." I say with all of my heart.

I jump off of my betas back just in time for him to be next to us. I have his mate in my arms and I slowly put her in her mate's arms. I can feel him shaking as the different emotions take over his thoughts. Tears are gushing out of his eyes, but I can see the anger brewing in his eyes as well.

He hides his angered face from me and grasps her tightly,

"Alpha... you're supposed to protect your pack... but there's been so much death lately... please don't let someone else lose their mate..." He finally looks up at me with determination blazing through his eyes.

I was taken aback by his response, "I can only do as much as I can, but when the moon goddess says it's time, it is out of my hands."

"THE Moon Goddess would never! My mate died for NOTHING! NOTHING!" I hear people gasp around me in fear for this man, I'm known for not being very nice. ' grrrr, you should kill him for insubordination, ' My wolf says in my head trying to command me. I growl in retort to my wolf and I see Ron jump in response. I feel regretful for making the situation worse. His shoulders hunch over and he puts his head up against his mates, I'm unable to see his face but I don't need to in order to understand the anguish coming from this man.

"My.. mate."

Sobs started pouring out and I could only make out small words. "Mate... love... left me..."

He grasps her even tighter and I put my hand on his shoulder to consolidate him. I could feel his sobs become more of a rasp as his breathing became uneven. I know nothing I can say can remove the loss of his mate and no matter how many tears he sheds she'll never come back.

I sigh and remove my hand from his hunched shoulder. I start walking back to the pack house not looking back. I know the rest of the pack will be there for him in a way I couldn't, even though I'm their alpha I can only have my members so close to me.

'Henry! My office now!' I mind link him not wanting to draw the packs attention away from Ron.

We reach my office inside the pack house. My office is in the center of the pack house with cream colored double sounds proof walls, not even the most skilled wolf can listen in on our conversations.

" Henry..." I say grumbling out, I sit down in my chair as he sits in the one across from me. I look at Henry's face and he looks as exhausted as I am.

"What should we do alpha?" he asks me with a concerned look.

"I... I don't know. It's not like we know where they come from, they're monsters even witches can't control. Maybe we should form a truce with other packs around even though I know it's going to be hard to form that in time to take control over this."

I can't believe I'm even suggesting something like that, if the council heard me, the alpha talking about forming alliances would be treachery in their eyes.

"Alpha."

Henry says interrupting my train of thought,

"This has been the 3rd attack in the last two weeks and they keep getting stronger, more and more of them appear. Let's send some of our stealthy wolves to scout to see if they can find anything." Henry suggested.

I rub my chin, it's a great idea as long as no one gets hurt, "Okay let's do that, but let's also contact the Hekata Clan, their witches would probably help us with protection spells and maybe see about hiring one for a tracking spell. I know we've tried that before but it wouldn't hurt to try again. When it comes to pack safety, it's the number one priority for us. I think we should keep this to a few to not alert the council members. I have another task that would be perfect for them."

Henry chuckles, " I like that idea alpha, I'll get everything ready in about an hour and we can head on over to the Hekata Clan. We haven't said hi in a while so it'll probably be best to go in person. " Henry says as he gets up and leaves my office. I started working on my mound of paperwork, not ready to go visit those damn witches.
