chapter 17. Julien

The witch gets up and scurrys out the door. My betta allows him to do so with a glare. I look over at my betta until I hear the witch long gone running down our street. I know he won't come back until he gets what we need.

It does make me curious about who the missing child is, but we'll deal with that after we fix the orb and when my mate wakes up. I can't focus on helping with a missing child when my whole pack is in danger.

My beta looks at me curiously and says, "Well. I think that was a little much, don't you think?"

"Listen." I say sternly. "I haven't slept in the past 48 hours. My mind is going crazy. but I know you're in the same boat so it's not much of an excuse but you never know what a witch will do if you give them a chance."

Henry shakes his head at that comment, "That happened years ago with one witch." He holds up one finger with his hand, I can see the desperation on his face, "When are you going to let that go? The person's already dead.." I cut Henry off, he's going into a direction he knows is going to work me up.

"Don't bring up my mother." I growl out at him. "Get out of my office now." I feel steam coming out of my head, maybe it's time that I get on blood pressure medicine or else I'm going to end up being like Tim Weaver and nobody wants to be like him.

I hear the door slam as I make my way back to my chair to work some more. I don't know what got Henry all worked up over how I treat witches. I shake the thought out of my head I have too much to do right now than deal with his personal problems.

I need a plan on dealing with the fay and I've been working with the other packs endlessly trying to come up with a plan to find where they're coming from. I have all of the small pack members and all of the pack members that can't shift yet stay in the pack house border until we can get the orb to start working again. The demon Faye likes to target the weak, it makes you an easy opponent. Knowing that

infuriates me more, all those women and children...

I can't believe that all of this is going on while my mate is asleep in my sister's room. I lose focus on my work thinking about her, I still have so many questions and I don't understand how she isn't up yet..

Just like it was on que, one of the pack members guarding the border howled outhouse a warning. That means that something is going on and it's not going to be pretty.

I hurry up and run out of my office and everyone in the pack house is doing the same.

"Alpha they're coming over by the cliffs. it looks like they're climbing up the cliffs to try to get to us.." One of the pack members mind link to me, I can feel how scared he is.

"Everyone get ready and get into formation!" I yell to all of the pack members.

"If you can't fight, get into the basement of the pack house now! There are protection spells that will save you from any faye. They can't cross any of the protection talismans over the doorway and windows!" I mind link to everyone in the pack, I try to sound strong and brave so they will feel secure.

I hear everyone exclaim, "Yes, alpha!" Almost exactly at the same time.

As soon as I get to the outside of the pack house I shift into my wolf not caring if my clothes get shredded, I feel my bones crunch instantly and my paws hit the dirt creating indents into the ground. As one of the first ones to be able to shift I go at full speed, I look over and see Henry running fast and trying to catch up to me, coming towards my right flank. I look over at him and nod while he does the same.

I mind link one of the females that stayed behind, her name is Therese. She takes care of all the young ones but is able to shift, one of the older ladies in our group. She helped train me when I was a young boy, and shes probably one of the strongest female warriors we have.

"Therese, can you please get my mate and take her downstairs with you? I need to make sure that she's safe, I can only do that if you're with her." I mind link only to her, I can hear the desperation in my voice.

"Yes Alpha. I'll make sure to take care of her and all the young ones too." Therese says back to me.

I cut off the mind link so I can focus on the task at hand. Henry and I are dashing through the woods jumping over logs darting around trees and finally run through the big field up towards the cliffs. We have to go up a giant hill to get to the cliffs around lots of rocks and boulders. The cliffs are at least 25 feet high and I know whatever demon Faye it is that's climbing up, are not going to be fun to fight.

I mind link some of the pack members that are already up there. I can feel about 15 pack members already there in about 6 or 7 more behind me not including Henry.

"Okay people make sure to form into groups of three or four! practice makes perfect and we are perfect! We got this! Make sure to protect each other and attack without hesitation to kill! We never know what kind of monster is going to come next, so be ready for anything! I need two of you to stay behind and protect the pack house. We don't know what's going to happen so stay alert!" I don't know who I was trying to convince more with that speech, myself or my pack.

Henry and I finally get to the cliffs just in time to feel the ground shake.

"Thud..."

...

"Thud..."

Something is crushing into the cliff making rocks fall to the bottom and ricochet all over the place. I can feel my heart stop and we wait.

All of a sudden you just see a giant dark gruesome hand the size of my entire body grab the edge of the cliff. The demon faye oversized head peaks over the side of the cliff.

He's huge.

I'm surprised that Faye even has to climb it. It throws its whole body over the side of the cliff with the giant arms the demon faye has.. His dark red body is as long as three stories, as wide as a truck, his arms are as long as his body like a gorilla and his face makes your whole body temble. His mouth is giant with sharp pointed teeth and in the form of a smile, his eyes are small but menacing. You can almost tell it's going to enjoy this by the wicked grin it has upon its face. It's an understatement when I say hundreds of Faye are climbing and flying behind him.

I shudder, we are going to lose pack members this time and there's nothing I can do about it.
