I felt a pang of guilt when Nica looked at me. I hadn’t meant to hurt her feelings, but I couldn’t stand there watching her and Riley flirt with each other. I wasn’t mad at her, but he was doing too much. I didn’t need Riley’s glare to tell me I was out of line, but there it was.
“You good, man?” Jay asked from the ground and I winced.
“Yeah, I’m good,” I breathed, trying to calm myself down. I pulled out my pack of cigarettes and stuck one between my lips to light. “Just had a lot on my mind lately.”
“I get that. You didn’t have to take it out on Nica though. Upsetting her is like kicking a kitten.”
