Chapter 3: Shadows

“You look so beautiful my lady”

Looking at the mirror I could see myself clearly,shiny,long dark hair, a perfect long nose, my lips were as pink as strawberries, My brownish orange coloured eyes, many people said I have the sunset in my eyes, an ovaly perfect face, my skin color was as pale as white,many assumed I was sick,others said I have the demons colour.

I stood at the entrance to the ball room waiting to be announced, I felt chills as Zain stood by me,I just couldn't stop staring at him,last night flashed at my face.

“Zain….your eyes” I was scared, his eyes were blazing red like that of fire, he was angry, I learn forward to touch his face he was surprise, maybe he thought I would run away, as I touched his face the blazing red eyes turned back to his normal dark eyes.

“Are u okay my lady” he was worried, I came back to my senses at once.

“I am “

“ Am sorry you heard to see this tonight”

I don't know if it was his eyes or the scenes I just saw that he was sorry for.

“ Am okay, but who are you Zain?” he expected.

I was curious,maybe he would know what I am also, maybe he would know why my dark hair turns silver at times,why I see flashes of things I don't understand,why I see memories of myself but in different forms.

“You need to head back it's late already” realizing that,I turned but couldn't find Mary or Jack anymore. I was in pain,why would Jack do this? We were supposed to be engaged tomorrow,I just put on a light smile and headed back to my room.

“You keep staring my lady,”

“am scared Zain”

“Am here to protect you,you don't need to be scared”

“Protect me from what exactly? From you?” I knew that was harsh, I just wanted him to say something about last night.but he had this expression I could not understand,it's not anger, I just couldn't fathom it.

“I promise to protect you from myself too” just then the ball room door opened.

I walked graciously into the ball room ,all eyes were on me now,I could hear people whisper among themselves.

“She is beautiful”

“Oh look at those eyes”

“She looks just like her mother”

“Could she be a witch too, look at her skin”

“Why do u think her grandma is trying to marry her off”......

I raised my head up high, looking ahead I saw jack,he was smiling,I felt the range boiling up again.

“My lady, be calm, I am here” Zain must have noticed the change. I became calm at once,I don't want people to know I am weird. I forced a smile and walked right up to him,giving him a slight bow.

“ You are the most beautiful today”

“Thank you” I forced a smile and sat down, if he likes Mary why then is he getting engage with me,I was boiling, the veins in my hands were clearly visible now,then I felt someone hold me

“Zain….” He just looked up at me and smiled.there is alot about this guy that I don't know yet,he is just so mysterious and strange things happen to me around him,but yet I felt safe, I held on to his hands tightly.

“Grandma, it's not fair, why me, you know I love him, but you just had to give him to her, why grandma, why is she so special “

“Pipe down young lady, I get to choose who gets married to whom and when”

“But grandma I love jack, she can get anything but not him”

Later than evening after the ball , I decided to take a walk this time I was alone Zain left for an errand he told me not to leave the room, but I choked up in there and decided to go for a walk, then I stumbled on grandma and Mary's discussion, Mary was in tears,I stayed hidden.

“Mary am only trying to protect you,”

“Protect me from what grandma”

“From her” I could see the confusion on Mary's face

Mary only cried harder, she left the room immediately holding on to her face, I still kept watching as grandma moved towards her bookshelf, bought out a book, opened it and brought out a picture.

“Where are you, your daughter needs you,” she just signed. Mistakenly while leaning to hear I made a noise.

“Who’s there”

I ran out immediately, while running I stumbled on my feet and fell down.

“Ouch ... .blood” I was cleaning myself up when I heard a noise, it's that noise from that night, oh how I wish I stayed inside, then the noise came closer, I grasped, they looked like shadows,I crawled backward,the shadow thing kept coming closer.

“Blood, fine wine”

Goosebumps covered my body, they kept coming, I wanted to scream but couldn't find voice,

“Help, someone help…..Zain where are you” I closed my eyes, my heart was giving up, I could no longer breathe, I felt exhausted as I kept crawling backwards, my hands were in pain, sweat dripping down my face, my eyes were finally closing, just then…

“Zain?” He was clashing swords with the shadows,I couldn't keep my eyes, it was slowly closing down. At once all the shadows disappeared, he rushed towards me before my head touched the ground. I couldn't clearly hear what he was saying,but I think I heard my name.

“Elsa,....”

Then my eyes gave up.
