The sweet taste of power was overwhelming in the best way possible. It was so familiar, and I was moments away from fully plummeting into it, but I felt a soft squeeze on my fingers as a quiet familiar voice called my name.
"Miss Cali... is it working?"
Ah yes... I am doing this for a reason... Think, Cali... what do I have to do....
Come on...
It was so hard to concentrate on anything else other than the sweet tingle of power spreading throughout my body. The overly familiar cloudiness in my head made it almost impossible to form a coherent thought on anything else other than how good it felt to have this power spreading through my body, filling in all the nooks and crannies that felt so empty and hallow.
I could feel laughter bubbling in my chest as my back arched as another big wave of power washed over me.
It felt amazing...
I felt amazing...
There is no comparison to this feeling of being full of power while being directly connected to the source of it all. It's like having the most delicious filling meal after months of only eating stale bread, but on even a higher level. Maybe if you mixed the most amazing orgasm on top of that, it would come close, but not quite.
"Miss Cali?"
I could hear the quiet genteel voice somewhere at the back of my consciousness, trying to get my attention, but I was in far too deep, lost in the power and energy coursing through my body to notice or care what was happening around me.
And then it was all gone.
The connection to the source, the constant flow... it was all gone.
My eyes shot open, and I saw that the altar was soaked with water and Sara was quietly crying a few steps out of the circle. In between her and me stood the king with an unreadable dark look on his face.
Fucking hell... I knew that this was going to happen... and I still did it.
"Hand me the book and the bag next to it?"
The king stared at me for a moment, not moving. Clearly not trusting me.
"Quick, before it all fades, and it will be all for nothing."
He hesitated for one more second, but then turned and handed me what I asked.
This was the last part, the spell that is going to protect the girl and the family. It was a simple, but not so easy protection spell, that should protect them from all forms of harm coming their way, magical and not. The key here is to charge a vessel with all the energy I got from the ritual.
As gems are the best at containing energy without messing it up, I took one of Bernadeth's necklasses that had a bright red ruby in the middle as the vessel for this spell. The ruby was clear and bright, making it perfect for this.
With shaking hands, I pulled the necklass out of the bag and tried to open the marked page, but my hands were shaking too bad for me to do it by myself. A moment later, the book was pulled out of my hand and the steady hands that were both elegant and with its share of scars, opened the page I needed.
I did my best to stay concentrated on the task at hand and ignore the hunger to get reconnected to the source. It was hard to concentrate and ignore the voices in my head telling me that I do not need to do this spell and drain the last bits of energy on this s**t, but I should instead use it to get more power...
After taking a steadying deep breath, I concentrated on the page in front of me.
The text was blurry, but that was due to me physically shaking and not something wrong with the book.
Slowly, I started repeating the incantation. The series of words spilling from my lips in a quiet voice over and over.
And I slowly felt warmth starting to radiate from the gem in the middle of the necklass, which was a good sign as it meant that it was working. Another giveaway that it was working, was the blurry darkness spreading through the sides of my vision.
And now the last step was to seal the spell inside the gem.
Not so gently I bit my lip, till I felt blood slowly seeping into my mouth. With shaking hands, I lifted the necklass to my lips and laid a genteel bloody kiss on the red stone, sealing the protection spell inside with enough energy for it to last at least a decade or two.
With that, it was done.
I could feel the energy radiating from the stone thought the wet fabric of my gloves.
"Did it work?"
The low rumble of the kings voice made me blink a few times and look up at him. I was met with the same dark, unreadable look on his face.
With a small nod I answered.
"Yes... as best it could with the time frame and tools I had."
For a moment he said nothing as he stared at me, then at the necklass in my hand.
"Will it be enough?"
Well that was the question... and the truth was that I had no idea. This was not my usual magic and I had no idea of its limits.
"I'm not sure..."
My voice came out as a whisper as I felt myself sway a little bit.
Shit, this took more energy than I first thought it would... and my body, after all the time without magic energy flowing through my veins, felt washed out and drained. The now familiar hallow feeling in my chest was that much more prominent.
Oh, shit...
Was the last thought as I felt myself fall...
And just as I was about to collide with the cold damp ground, a familiar warm and steady hand wrapped around my shoulder.
Before I could say or do anything, I was lifted off the ground. Everything in me screamed to stop him and demanded to be put down, but before any of those words left my mouth, I was stopped.
"Don't, you can barely sit up straight, walking is completly out question and I am sure that if you spent anymore time on the cold ground in this state, you will get sick and then who will protect my uncle and causing? not to mention making sure that the thing you created working and not destroying my kingdom."
His voice was calm and quiet, I am sure he said all that so that I would be the only one that could hear it. As I am sure he had no wish for panic or fear to spread. In a quick pace he carried me through the house.
"Wait... I need to give it to Bernadeth..."
I did not add the true reason as to why I wanted to give it away as soon as possible... as it was because I could feel the energy radiating from it and my mind kept showing me ways that I could take it and use it for myself. Oh there were so many ways that I could use this energy to get more power in more permanent ways... shit... I have to keep myself on a tight leash... come on Cali, remember why you can't... remember what you promised yourself...
The king did now say anything else as he turned and walked further into the house, to the main room where the family was waiting for news. And the whole time he was walking I kept repeating the same mantra of reason as to why I have to give it away as soon as possible.
Once we stepped into the main sitting room where complete silence hung like a heavy cloud.
"What happened?"
Bernadeth was the first one to break the silence as she walked in our direction. This time when I tried to move, the king lowered me to the floor, letting me stand on my own two feet. Sure, I was not steady and swayed a lot, but I stood on my own two feet. Without another word, I made a small step forward and with very shaky hands placed the necklass around the young girls neck. It took embarrassing amount of self-control for me to release it and step back.
"Do not take it off, under any circumstance..."
My words were nothing more then a whisper, but by the look on the younger girls face, I was sure that she understood.
And as I was about to take another step back my body collided with a warm one right behind me and everything went dark.
