Chapter 7The conference room was full of sour faces. All department members seemed to be equally put out by the change of meeting time. Harper quietly slipped into the room, pleased she wasn’t the last person to arrive. She took a seat across from Professor Pond, who ran the business and finance programs.
“Always a pleasure to see you, Harper,” Pond said in his oily voice. Harper found the man extremely off putting, but it was difficult to pinpoint the exact reason why. It could be the way he looked at, and talked to, herself and Macy, who were the only two female department heads. His tone always bordered on the edges of condescension and flirtation, and the way he looked at Harper made her skin crawl. She gave him a polite nod in return, reluctant to engage in conversation.
