Star Crossed Fates

The Reliable Narrator:

Once upon a time, as such stories go, the paths of two people destined for one another collided in a spectacular yet unexpected fashion, and the world was never the same again. Their names were Samuel Remont and Paige Berkeley.

If any two people embodied star-crossed lovers in real life, it was them. Their entire lives were polar opposites . Samuel  was the only child of a rich real estate tycoon and a world renowned Human Rights lawyer. While, Paige was one of four children living in a quaint two bedroom apartment with her mom who was a RN at the local hospital.

Samuel's family as expected lived in an upper class, gated community on a lavish estate, wanting for nothing. His parents doted on him by catering to his every whim and purchasing extravagant gifts. Their quality time; however, was too precious a commodity to spare for childish fancies. So, Samuel rarely saw his parents outside of major events like award ceremonies , for them of course, or dinner parties. On the other hand, Paige's family was a tight-knit crew who had weekly family game nights and daily cuddles on the couch. They went on family road trips during the summer and had sledding competitions during the winter, a regular "Hallmark" family.

Upbringing and social status were not even the biggest obstacles to them developing a relationship though. By far, the largest hurdle was one of which the two teens were not even consciously aware. Unbeknownst to them, they were actually royalty for opposing kingdoms from another realm. A war between the two factions raged while their biological parents gave birth to them.  Knowing the legend that a union between them when they got older could bring about an end to the kingdoms forever, the two families simultaneously and regretfully sent their newborns through a portal to the other world with a note for a family to take care of them in hopes of sparing their lives and the lives of their beloved subjects.  It did not take long for word to spread though that both families had made the same decision .  Worried that they may somehow find each other in the new world, they decided to take action. So, two separate parties composed of their realms most trusted witches and  wizards, under the guise of ordinary citizens, traveled through the portals to look after the future king and queen and to ensure their souls would  never find each other. Shortly after they left, the nobles of each kingdom, without direction from their kings, destroyed the portals and discarded the remnants; thereby, preventing the return of the children and anyone's intervention ever again. For eighteen years, the witches and wizards were successful in keeping them apart, but one fateful day everything changed.
