Many of the regular customers were complaining about the one day the shop was closed. The heavy man who always wanted three dozen assorted donuts said he didn’t know what to do. Finally he went to the supermarket. “But the donuts over there aren’t nearly as good as here,” he noted, smiling as he peered into the display case again to make his choices. Abel was so glad to be back at work that he wasn’t even annoyed at how long the big man took to choose his three dozen donuts. Claudia, Abel, and Zeno worked steadily, doling out glazed and chocolate donuts, bear claws, and apple fritters. Hector Ponce spent most of his time in the back room
