CHAPTER EIGHT OCTOBER 23, 1960 Ollie felt like skipping church today because the autumn leaves are so beautiful, she preferred to enjoy the outdoors. I suspected she wanted me to go for a walk with her, but my leg was not cooperating with the rest of my body. I’ve noticed my toenails are rotting, and my foot is a pasty color. (I’ve made a mental note to get some new socks.) ‘Anyhows’ (that’s Hoosier), I came up with a great plan to thank Ollie for all she has done for me. I suggested we jump on a bus and go visit Denise up in Crawfordsville. It’s about an hour’s ride away.
