“Olivia! Olivia!” When Matthew went upstairs, her looked all over the office and didn't see Olivia, which made him more anxious.
“ Hannah, where is Olivia?”
“What?” Hannah was at her desk. She heard Matthew's voice and he sounded very concerned. If Matthew really saved her…. She thought.
The more she thought about it, the more irritable she became. She saw Matthew come in , in a hurry. She thought about when he had been rejected by him. She started to feel more and more sad. Her eyes were already full of tears. “Matthew, why are you questioning me ?” She asked.
Matthew didn't bother to answer her nonsense question. “Where is Olivia?” He asked again more angrily. His intuition was that she had something to do with Olivia not being around.
“How do I know where she is?” There was no one around and Hannah didn't care about her image, and suddenly got up.
“She is so cheap, maybe she went to have s*x with men!” Seeing that Matthew’s face became more ugly, she realized what she said. “I…I….”
Matthew put his hand in her face, stopping her mid sentence. There was no way she could take back or make a good enough excuse for what just came out of her mouth.
He thought to himself, “For such a vile woman, it would be a waste of time to talk to her. All she answers with is nonsense.
IBM was a 32- story enterprise. Looking for Olivia is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but he wondered why her mobile phone was off?
The more Matthew thought about it, the more he panicked. He didn't know what to do. Suddenly he heard a soft sob. “It’s her!” He thought. Although the sound was faint, Matthew will always know that sound and who it belonged to. After carefully listening Matthew knew she was in the stairwell. Olivia huddled together trying to make herself small. She heard the door open and she wiped the tears out of her eyes with her hands quickly. But Matthew could clearly see she was crying.
“You… why are you here?” Olivia asked . After all the crying her voice was hoarse. Matthew finally listened to his heart and sat down beside Olivia. He didn't care that his brand new suit was now dirty.
“What's the matter?” Matthew asked Olivia.
“Nothing.” Olivia didn't want to tell him about what Brooke called her or that she slapped her. So she chose to avoid the question altogether. Matthew could clearly see the slap print on Olivia's face, still very red.
“Who hit you?” Matthew grabbed Olivia’s face and made her face him, his told cold as ice.
“It's okay!” Olivia tried to break free, but when she saw Matthews look, her heart warmed.
“Really, it's fine.” She said, trying to make him believe her.
The employees of the company have already spread rumors of the two of them. If Matthew really stands up for her she is afraid that the rumors will get worse. She doesn't want to bring any trouble to Matthew.
WHen Matthew saw her like this, he was already worried. He took Olivia by the hand and stood up with her.
“Come with me.” he said
“Why?” Olivia asked weirdly.
Matthew looked back at her and smiled. “Do you want to go back to work looking like this?”
Olivia's face has a natural pink hue to it. But because of the slap it is very red. She can't just go back to work looking like this. And if she asks to go home early, she feels it will give others a bad impression of her.
“Just follow me.” Matthew led Olivia by the hand out of the stairwell. HE held her hand tight. Her palm was getting warm. Then Olivia’s palm started to sweat. Matthew noticed it but didn't say anything about it. “Why are my hands getting sweaty?” Olivia thought to herself, as she tried to pull her hand away from him.
But Matthew held her hand tighter and moved closer to Olivia, and spoke into her ear. Her ears are now also turning red because of how close the 2 of them are at the moment. He smiled at her and said: “Your hand is just fine. Don't worry about it.”
They looked at eachother and Olivia noticed that this is the happiest she has ever seen him . but that didn't last long. His usual look returned and he said: “Let’s go” Even the elevator was empty, but Matthew still clung to Olivia’s hand.
“Can you… can you let me go?” Olivia didn't care about anything. She wanted to pull away but Matthew would not let her go. He held onto her hand and didn't say anything.
Matthew was going to tease Olivia, but looking at her face with the slap mark, he didn't, he just smiled and finally let go of her hand.
“Where are you taking me?” Olivia didn't ask until they got into Matthews' car.
“Look at your face…” Matthew replied calmly, but you can hear how upset he was in his voice.
The car sped out of the underground parking lot at a high speed. Both of their work days have already started. No one knew that they were leaving. But oddly Olivia felt at ease. When they got out of the care, Olivia still didn't realize that Matthew had taken her to a private clinic.
“Matthew, who is this?” There was a gray haired olf man wearing a white coat, that Olivia had never seen before that is why she asked. Mathew smiled and replied: “This is Mark.”
Olivia hurriedly followed with tears in her eyes.
“What happened to your face, young lady?” Even though he was a little older, Mark’s eyes were exceptionally sharp, and he saw the wound that Olivia tried to cover. When she didn't know what to say, Matthew stepped in and answered the question for her.
“Don't ask, we are in a hurry, can you help her quickly get the swelling down?”
Olivia then realized that Matthew had taken her to see a doctor. Mark gave Matthew a funny look, and stopped questioning Olivia. “Follow me.” Mark said and Olivia and Matthew followed. When they got to the room. Olivia was the only one who went in. Matthew wanted to give her a little bit of privacy. Not long after, Olivia and Mark came out of the exam room. Although the swelling was not completely gone, the palm print was no longer visible.
Matthew thanked Mark and took Olivia by the hand, both ready to leave.
“Mathew, this girl…” Mark said with a smile before they left. Matthew responded “You know me very well…”
The two talked like they were playing charades, and the only thing that Olivia was was confused. Mark said “She’s very beautiful.” He smiled and looked at Olivia with loving eyes. Olivia wondered about that comment, and then finally asked Matthew: “Why did he say that?”
Matthew glanced at her, and then laughed. “Mark likes you very much.”
Olivia just looked lost. She wasn't not use to that kind of attention.
Olivia realized that Matthew came to her rescue and also helped her with the injury on her face. She turned towards Matthew and said: “Thank you.”
Matthew turned his head and saw the faint pink on her face from the slap. His eyes were dark with anger. After a minute he responded with: “It was nothing, don't worry about it.”
Everything was done, and even though Matthew was a very good driver, they were very late getting back to work.
When they got to work, all the employees on their floor were busy with their work. Olivia seems a little embarrassed that she and Matthew were late. He sees this look on her face and gives her a little pat on the back. He nods to signal her to get to her desk. Olivia listens and hurries back. Hannah watched them come in together, the corners of her eyes burning brightly and she became very upset that they were together.
As soon as Brooke saw Matthew come into the office she hurried over to him and asked softly: “Matthew, you are late! What's the matter? Did something happen?”
Matthew glanced at her quickly but didn't say a word to her.
Brooke wouldn't give up. “You have never been late like this before.”
Since Matthew started working he has always had a good relationship with other employees. He has his own principles for his work. It's like it is impossible to be late, or leave early. And today he was late.
“Never being late before, doesn't mean I will never be late in the future does it?” Matthew said to Brooke coldly.
Brooke looked defeated and went back to her desk. A short time later a message was sent to Brooke through messenger. It was from Hannah.
“Olivia and Matthew came in late to work together.”
Brooke immediately got up and went towards the bathroom. She was very upset. She didn't see Olivia or Matthew. All she cares about is Matthew and believes he should not care about Olivia.
What pisses her off more is that she believes she taught Olivia a lesson the other morning. Brooke believes that Olivia dared to seduce Matthew again. The more she thought about it, the more angry she became. When she was done in the bathroom she just walked out. Hannah took her cup, got up and pretended to go to the break room, but she was really going to gossip with Brooke.
“What the hell is going on?” Brooke asked, clearly angry.
“I saw the two of them come in together.” Hannah’s eyes are full of sadness.
“No wonder….” Brooke felt that she guessed it. When she thought about Matthew's attitude towards her just now, she asked: “Did Olivia complain to Matthew?”
“I don't know, but looking at her delicate and pitiful appearance she must have behind our backs.”
“How dare she!!! That b***h thinks that she has the right over me to say what is right or wrong. It seems that the lesson I gave her the other day isn't enough to teach her to stay away from Matthew.”
Looking at Brooke’s angry departure, Hannah’s mouth lifted into a sarcastic smile. She didn't believe by herself that she could stop Olivia. She wondered if Brooke would be able to do it. Brooke returned to her desk, the anger on her face showed the moment she looked at Matthew. She doesn't want Matthew to dislike her. She went back over to him to try and get back in his good graces.
“Matthew, did you have lunch?” He had left in a hurry from the lunchroom and didn't get a chance to eat, which she already knew, but wanted to play dumb.
Matthew glanced at her and said “No”
“Then this is for you! I remembered you loved it.” She said, trying to hand him mango lasagna.
Matthew glanced at the food and refused it again. “Brooke, I am working. This is a company, and if you can't do your job right, you should just go home.”
“I can do my job just fine, but you didn't eat lunch. This is what I specially bought for you so you could eat.” Brooke said, looking at Matthew with an unhappy look.
They grew up together and have known eachother since they were kids. She believed that as long as she was charming towards Matthew, there would never be anything wrong between them. She was very wrong. This time Matthew acted differently.
“Sorry, I am not hungry.” he said and turned his head back towards his work, and didn't look at her again. Her pretty face flushed, and her newly done fingernails were clenched tightly against her palm. She threw the mango lasagna into the trash can next to her.
“Since you wont eat it. I will just throw it away!”
Matthew heard what Brooke had said but didn't respond. Brooke looked at his cold appearance, Her heart ached, and then she looked at Olivia sitting at her desk. Right now she even hated her teeth. Brooke thought to herself: “This woman isn't more beautiful than me. Is her face enough to attract Matthew? Or is she really good at seducing men? No matter what it is, if she dares to take Matthew from me, she better be prepared to bear the consequences!”
