36. Official ScoutIn the light of a new morning, Branwyn stood looking out towards the fortress at Carn Deas. The castle did not sit on the tallest of the mountain peaks, as she had thought it would, but nestled on a grassy plateau halfway up the slopes. A series of walls and ramparts encircled it, with the main buildings standing high and imposing in the centre. She imagined the tops of the towers commanded an impressive view of the open land to the north and east and even some way into the western forest where they had come from. Yet even from this distance, a few miles from the fortress, Branwyn could see the Brathadair flag flying from the ramparts. Unconsciously she took a step back under the trees.
