LILY’S POV
I peered through the window. It was morning. I didn't feel like going out.
I haven't gone out since morning. It feels so much like yesterday. I miss Stephanie a whole lot.
I am lily Cruz, an Omega of crescent pack. “Lily, hope you have no plans to stay in there all day”, my mom shouted from the living room. I just shrugged and lay back on the bed.
I have been keeping to myself since Stephanie died and my parents saw me as being responsible for her death. Everyone does.I had to crawl back into my shell. I could remember it like it just happened.
FLASHBACK:
“ Lily, which of these gowns is preferable?” Stephanie asked. She is my elder sister and a beta wolf. While Stephanie was a full time extrovert I was the reverse of her.
“Anyone is okay,” I replied with my whole gaze focused on my phone. “I bet you are not planning to wear those to the party?”she asked. I raised a brow.
I don't like parties and don't know how to make friends.
Stephanie is always lively, she is mostly described as the life of the party. She usually goes to parties. Everyone adores her.
Sometimes my sister's friends describe me as being weird. Stephanie is a good baker. She learnt from my mom. She baked well.
My mom bakes for the royal house. She had always had a crush on the alpha but she wouldn't say.
I can barely cook or bake. Stephanie had tried bringing me out of my introverted life.
She would take me to the mall, snap good photos. I loved when she was around.
She introduced me to how to make imaginary friends. She exposed me to a penpalling community online.
I love writing so I sent my request for a Friend to the penpal community. Apart from Stephanie, I had no other friends.
“Have they sent a letter to you?” Steph asked, looking through her fingernails.
“No, they haven't. Am just so nervous”, I answered and heaved a deep sigh. “Let's be positive”.she assured me.
I paced around the room anxiously. In a short while, we heard the door bell.
I rushed to the door. It was the mail man. I quickly collected the mail and unwrapped.
It was an acceptance letter from a friend. He wrote so well. I was excited. “Steph, I have a friend, I shouted as my sister ran to the living room.
She read the content of the letter and smiled. “Guess what? It's a guy!”she proclaimed. “How could you be so sure?”I questioned.
“Well I have a thing for guys, I have male friends and I know how they write.
This was how Clark sent his first message and I knew he was the one.” she replied and we both giggled.
I couldn't wait for his messages anymore.
I always get excited when he sent them. I would drool over it for a while fantasizing on our reality before sending my reply.
We decided to keep it anonymous for a while.
After some time we decided to reveal identities.
I was eager to know if he was an alpha or a beta. I wonder what his name would be. He had told me he stays in this town.
“Did you receive my letter? I asked my mom. She nodded in the negative. What could be wrong? Stephanie asked. I rushed Into my room.
I refused to eat for days. Stephanie assured me that they might have issues with the mailman.
One week have passed and he was yet to reply. What could I have done wrong. I lay flat on the bed when I overheard some voices downstairs. I peered through my window. It was Stephanie and Clark.
“Clark, you have to stop coming here? It seems we are going in circles,” Stephanie said. “I don't get you Steph, you gat other things going up your sleeves!! We have always been perfect! What went wrong?” He lamented. I crawled back into my bed.
What could be wrong? I wondered. I heard Steph bang her room door. This isn't the right time to talk about my penpal.
Steph was beginning to glow. She had told me she broke up with Clark. How could she be this happy? Maybe she found someone better. I decided to confront her.
“You look overly excited sis, what's with you?” I asked. “Well, maybe I found someone way better. Like someone I have always crushed on since childhood,”she giggled.
I couldn't be more happier for her. Steph with all the good things. She is always good with love.
I am the reverse.
Stephanie had promised to introduce him. I couldn't wait to meet the guy that had swept my sister off her feet since high school.
The thought of my penpal not replying sunk me in. I went to my shell again. I really didn't know what I did wrong. But I just needed to hear from him.
It was Sunday again.
Steph was inviting her new boyfriend over. Hey kiddo, my baby is here! Get something nice! Steph shouted resting on my room door. She knew I wasn't going to listen.
I love my hoodie. I rushed downstairs. Dad was talking to him. “Is that…… yes he is, Steph cut me short. I couldn't believe it. Little wonder she left Clark.
“Babe meet lily, my sis. Lily meet alpha James Anderson my boyfriend” she introduced me and I walked to take a seat at the table.
Mom wouldn't stop bugging him with food offers. Dad only asked about the pack's affairs. I imagined how it would have been if I had invited my penpal over. My parents would have been proud though.
When I was younger I used to fall sick consistently. I got tired but Steph was my nurse. She would skip school sometimes to be with.
They were happy when I eventually got over it. I started my shift at a late time. Stephanie had always been faster and smarter than I was.
I only wish I could make them proud.
“Alpha James, how did you meet my sister? I asked curiously. Steph coughed.
I smiled as I stared at the alpha curiously. “Well, we started as penpal…” we all coughed. “Pen what?” I shouted.
“You have a penpal?” I turned to face Stephanie whose eyes were facing the floor. “ Lily, I decided to give it a try.
I saw how you were always smiling at your letters so I decided to give it a try and I found love” she concluded, sharing a smile with the alpha.
“James, my sis here is a shy person like I told you but she wasn't so lucky with love. Her penpal left” she said facing my mom who nodded in agreement.
“Don't worry, you will meet a nice friend soonest and guess what, he might be more than a friend,” James said as they all smiled. I felt embarrassed.
How could Stephanie have told her new boyfriend about how miserable I was. I wanted to leave but I didn't want our guests to feel uneasy.
I sunk into my chair till dinner was over.
Few weeks have passed and my sister's relationship has blossomed. I haven't heard from my penpal.
I would have literally forgotten about him but my instinct tells me he is close and we might meet someday.
Whenever Stephanie was with James, I always had a kind of feeling that he was close. how would I identify him? We never disclosed our identity.
I was beginning to feel I was cursed. I knew my parents were thinking the same thing. Only Stephanie had my back.
I laid on my bed when Stephanie barged in. “Sis,you were supposed to knock!” I yelled. “Am pregnant!” She screamed pointing the domestic test strip to me.
