Chapter Three

I was frightened. What could the alpha have told them? “ Mom! I replied. I didn't kill my sister”.

“ Then why did you leave the room? You knew Steph was going to look for you! You left her in her condition.

She lost her life trying to protect you even in her pregnancy, she stated in tears. I sobbed.

“ It had always been about you!” She grabs my hand. I looked at my dad in tears, “dad! I didn't kill Stephanie I promise.” He dragged my mom.

He looked at me helplessly. I saw the pains in his eyes.

“ How inconsiderate could you be?” she has always protected you since childhood.”

She looked at my dad and walked away angrily. “Dad, I didn't…I…. Please believe me!!” I jiggled him vigorously.

He shoved me aside and sank on the chair. I ran upstairs. If only the dead could speak.

I cried and vowed to avenge my sister's death. I don't know how but I had to. I would keep the paternity of the lost pregnancy a secret. I cried myself to sleep.

A knock on my door woke me up from my slumber where I was with Steph. I sighed, it was only a dream.

“Lily, I brought dinner, let's talk!” He stretched.

“ Dad please, I am not eating. You should be comforting mom, she hates me now and she won't be happy you are here” I answered.

“ Lily, she doesn't hate you. She was so attached to Stephanie. She is hurt, okay?” He said. I could feel the forced smile through his voice. “I would leave the food here”. He was about to leave when I interrupted with my voice.

“ Dad, how is Alpha Luke? I enquired. “ Alpha James said he is recuperating, he replied and walked away.

*BACK TO REALITY *

I tossed around the bed. I hadn't gone out for days. My phone beeped. It reads: “ Lily, did Stephanie die with the pregnancy. Please I just want to know,

Love; gamma Clark.”

I decided to reply back. I was about to call when he called with the same line.

“Hi lily”, he greeted.

“Clark, I know about you being responsible for this pregnancy, but she lost it, the least you should be talking about’ is pregnancy. I lost my sis and everyone thinks I am responsible” I said swiftly.

“Lily, you might be scared but I know you are strong and you will scale through okay?” he mentioned.

“How did you know that?” I asked with surprise.

“I am not a witch, though I come from a bloodline of mystical werewolves, but I know you are strong and will show it one day,” he reassured me. as confusing as it was I just shrugged it off.

“Clark, one more thing, you have to keep this a secret till you die, please, I don't want the memories of my sister to be tarnished. Let her remain the hero that she was,” I pleaded.

He assured me he wouldn't say a thing. If he wanted to, he would have done it a long time ago. I ended the call. How could he know these things?

The mating ceremony was just a few months away. I anticipated who my mate would be. An alpha, gamma, beta, maybe an Omega or even a lycan.

Who would be unfortunate to be with me. Like Stephanie had said, what if my long lost penpal happens to be my mate.

I started baking with my mom. I know i'm not good at it. Most times she tells me not to bother. I know she doesn't feel the bond unless with Stephanie. Alpha Luke had recovered fully.

The mating ceremony and my eighteenth birthday had come.

Mom baked a cake for me. I came downstairs, she was nowhere to be found. “ Where is mom?” I asked my dad after cutting the cake.

“She had some things to fix at the bakery so she….

“Stop lying dad,” I interrupted. We both know she didn't come on purpose.

“No honey,we will celebrate together after you find your mate, okay? He smiled.

There would be a celebration at the royal house. The mating ceremony would hold there.

“Who do you think your mate would be?” My wolf asked. I sniffed. We have not talked for a long time since I shifted. She had always been my best friend after Stephanie.

“Anything the moon goddess has is accepted,” I replied.

I arrived at the royal house. It is filled with people. I hate crowds, especially when Stephanie isn't there.

“You have to key to the fact that she is gone and move on. Break out of this shell already!” she blurted out.

I tried to avoid the eyes of the pack members. Everyone feels Stephanie died for my sake. I feel so guilty in this pack. I moved out.

“Hey lily? Rookie said. He is a beta wolf and a friend to Stephanie.

“What is it?” I responded trying to walk away.

“Are you scared? You don't have to, even though your guardian angel ain't here!” He burst into a disgusting laughter.

“Stop it!” Phyna hit him interrupting his laughter. *Steph was our friend, you can't bully her sis with it, you don't want to get on a bad book with the alpha”, she said dragging him away.

I walked towards Stephanie's room. It was locked. I stopped one of the maids.

“ Hey, why is it locked?

Alpha James instructed it shouldn't be open to anyone, she answered and walked away.

I heaved a deep breath and walked away. I sat at the back of the compound. I would sit there till I was ready to leave. It was almost twelve. I felt it. The bond. He is here. I smiled.

“ You wouldn't like what's coming! My wolf stated. My iris had changed to blue.

“It can't be!” Alpha James gasped.

Are you my….no this is a mistake!! I ran out of the environment. I ran away as fast as my legs could take me.

I couldn't stay in that place, I couldn't face him. How will I live knowing that my mate Is my late sister's fiance. It's a mistake. This isn't right. My wolf was silent.

I ran home. It began to rain. I could feel his presence close. Is he following me. I could feel his thought.

“ You are back so early” my dad asked smiling.

“Yes dad,” I replied rushing to my room.

“You don't look okay is there anything I can do”….I slammed my room door cutting him short.

I quickly changed into my hoodie. I sat on the floor. My eighteenth birthday turned out to be my nightmare. I could hear voices downstairs. My mom wasn't back yet. It was male voices.

“ Lily, come downstairs”, my dad ordered.

I rushed out. I turned to leave when my dad held my hand. “ Alpha James has something to say” I sighed and sat on the sofa.

Alpha Luke stood behind accompanied by Joseph; alpha James personal assistant and three other guards.

Alpha James sits next to me. He cleared his throat.

“ Lily, I know we have not been on good terms since the death of my fiancee; your sister.

I guess the moon goddess had other plans choosing us but you know I am going through alot; you see the pain.

I don't want to get over Steph, she was my life. I know you understand me…..

“Stop!” I hushed him. “I, Lily Cruz, an Omega of crescent pack hereby reject you Alpha James as my mate.
