Garth's POV
The night slowly passed along with the intense lovemaking.
Beep! Beep! The sound of a notification on my phone woke me up.
When I opened my eyes, the lady was no longer in my arms.
Where is she?
I sat up on the bed and rubbed my eyes, but it didn't do any good. I ran my hand through my hair and let out a deep breath.
What happened last night?
The innocence in her voice, the intensity of the feelings in her eyes with which her body was carved
Her beautiful hair that covered her face, her sweet moans when she yearned for pleasure. She made me wish she was mine.
Where is she?
I touched my lips and looked around the room. I was convinced she was there. It wasn't a dream.
My gaze fell on a piece of paper and a pile of cash beside it.
Did she leave that here?
My guesses were true when I reached for the note and read it.
“Hi…it's me, your one-night stand. I'm sorry, but it never happened. I'm married and what happened last night was a mistake. I'm genuinely sorry.”
I read the note again and squeezed it angrily. My eyes went back to the pile of cash she left.
What the hell does she think of me? How dare she call last night a mistake?
My mind flashed back to me kneading and sucking on her breast and how vulnerable she was under my touch.
How her body ignited my passion and helped me make her release.
I wasn't a gigolo, I have seen so many beautiful women. Some were even high calibers, some had cosmetic surgery to commensurate their already breathtaking body just to appeal to me, yet I wasn't attracted to them. Not even my own fiancé, who was an epitome of beauty.
I know many would wonder why a man who has such a beautiful fiancé had a one-night stand with a woman who wasn't as beautiful as my fiancé.
Honestly, I don't know either. But all I knew was the mystery lady ignited a flame within me. Something my fiancé has never done.
Not like I can remember the last time we were intimate.
My phone rang and it caught my attention.
It was not my intention to pick because I was thinking of my mystery lady who left without a trace.
She didn't even drop her name.
“Hello.”
“Hey Garth, where are you? I tried reaching you, but it didn't get through. Don't tell me you are working, Mr. Workaholic, because it's your day off.” An enthusiastic yet teasing voice said from the other side of the phone.
I rubbed my temples.
It was my best friend who always looked for a way to taunt me.
***********************************
I thought of tiptoeing into the house, so I wouldn't alert Sebastian on my night-out escapade, but when I got to the stairs, I met his mum in the walkway.
“Amelia,” she called out, fixing her gaze on me, and I froze.
“Where were you last night? You didn't bother to come check on me and share the good news with us.”
I felt a shiver run down my spine.
“G…good news? I stuttered.
Nothing good happened the previous day, especially not my one-night stand. It wasn't good news.
But the deed was done, and facing my behavior made me feel like a failure.
What's the point of what happened last night if I can't own it?
Looking at my mother-in-law made me want the ground to swallow me. How much more when I see Sebastian?
He was proud of cheating, but I wasn't.
“You know.” She winked. “Your visit to the hospital.”
I was aware of what she was talking about, but I just couldn't.
“It's fine, you don't have to tell me right now.” She said.
“What??
“During dinner, you can share it with the whole family.”
“Dinner? The words left my mouth in a small whisper.
“Yes. My husband requested that you and Sebastian should join us for dinner. And one more thing, your husband's brother and his fiancé will be joining us as well. So be prepared.”
“Can I see the dinner menu, so I can oversee the kit…”
Before I could finish the sentence, she caught me off. “No!
I have always supervised the cooking and organized dinner, and I couldn't help but wonder why it was different this time.
“Well,” she said and held my hand. “All I'm trying to say is that you don't have to supervise the cooking tonight or any upcoming cooking henceforth. Look at you.”
I looked at her, and it was difficult for me to decipher if her concerns towards me were genuine or not.
“You look pale and there are dark circles around your eyes.” She said while touching my face. “Don't tell me my son has been stressing you a lot. I know he can be a handful sometimes, but I also know he loves you a lot.”
The atmosphere changed, and I looked down because I was too stunned to speak.
“Why don't you go to your room and rest? Please let me know if you need anything, okay?
She rubbed my palm before I walked away.
She was treating me nicely because she thought I was pregnant.
I bowed my head in shame. Even though I was angry my husband cheated, I still felt I wouldn't have cheated. Maybe things would work out and we would remain a happy family.
I went into my room and opened the drawer where I kept my vitamins, and I was shocked at what I saw. I almost had a heart attack. There were two packs of condoms!
Sebastian and I had never used condoms because we had been trying to have a baby.
How come he has this many condoms?
I looked into the trash can and I sat on the floor from the sight of the multiple used condoms in the bin.
I couldn't cry. I just took the vitamins and left the room.
There was a small room downstairs. In the past, it used to be my favorite safe haven. I would go there to read books.
But my mother-in-law stopped me from going into the room.
“Now you are married to my son, you have to pay attention to everything you do so you don't put our family name to shame. You can no longer read those books! Those were her words.
Just as I was about to leave the room, I heard voices coming from outside the window.
I moved close to the window, opened it slowly, and peeped. I saw Sebastian and his mother standing outside.
They looked as if they were having an argument, judging by their voice and body language.
However, Sebastian seemed more relaxed.
Usually, I would never listen to their conversations, but I was drawn for some reason.
“Sebastian, I want you to be a little more kind to Amelia.”
“Kind to a hag?
My eyes widened in shock.
“A hag? Did he just call me that?
I felt low, hearing such a word from my husband.
“Whatever mum. Even though I cheat on her face, she won't leave. She is a very weak woman.”
I left the window and leaned against the wall.
“A weak woman?? I muttered.
“Even if she is weak, I want you to be good to her. She is pregnant.”
“Ahh, pregnant again? Why will she be pregnant when she is going to deliver a dead child? He asked.
“I know, son. I know I was the one that persuaded you to get married to her. I never knew she was no good. Now she is pregnant, you can't desert her. You know if she gives you an heir, twenty percent of Blackwell’s conglomerate will be yours. Please keep that in mind.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“I want you to promise me that you will be good to her. It's for your sake.”
“I promise Mother. I will do as you say.”
“Good son!
That was all I heard before they left.
Right there, I made up my mind about what to do next.
And it had nothing to do with getting back on good terms with Sebastian…
