Not sure how long she would stay with her parents, Catherine packed enough clothes for three-year-old Margaret and two-year-old Sarah to last a few weeks.
Tedder packed for a few days. The new mill was open, the fit out completed, and Edward Yates had taught Tedder the trade. They ground wheat into flour for bakers and settlers every day, except Sunday. Edward Yates had assured James he could manage a few days on his own.
They harnessed the two horses, packed the cart and set off around 5 am Saturday morning to try and avoid the heat of the day. Margaret sat between her parents, and Sarah sat on Catherine’s lap.
