Sure, what happened at the banquet ruined the Lewis family's reputation pretty badly, but that was still nowhere near enough for me.
Just when I was thinking about how to completely destroy the Lewis family, Carl delivered this opportunity to me on a silver platter. He invited me to an auction.
I had no interest in going at first, but he told me that some of Mom and Dad's belongings would be up for sale there. Back then, my older sister had to pawn Mom and Dad's things to support Carl.
I never had much attachment to those things myself, but I thought if my sister got her hands on their belongings, she would surely be happy, wouldn't she? Maybe it would even help ease her condition a little.
So I agreed to attend the auction. Sure enough, Mom and Dad's belongings were there, and I pushed the price all the way to win them all back.
Marjorie snickered beside me, covering her mouth. "Sarah, there are still important items coming up later. You'd better pace yourself, otherwise you won't have enough money to push the price all the way later."
When the final grand closing lot was brought out, I finally understood what Marjorie meant. They were my older sister's private photos.
The elation I had felt from winning back my parents' belongings vanished in an instant.
A murderous desire began to surge wildly inside me.
Back when my sister caught Carl cheating with Marjorie, she planned to use this as leverage to force Carl to give her custody of Billie. What she never expected was that Carl would turn the tables, take private photos of her, and use them to blackmail her.
He threatened to ruin her socially if she dared to say a word about it to anyone. Worst of all, by that point, my sister was already highly wary of Carl and Marjorie, and it was Billie who coaxed her into going home. That is why my sister had a mental breakdown.
"Sarah, why aren't you pushing the price higher? Be careful your private photos get leaked."
Marjorie's feigned well-meaning reminder made it even harder for me to suppress the raging hatred in my heart.
The other auction attendees had clearly heard something about what was going on, and now they were all excitedly egging us on.
"Mr. Lewis, that's your wife's private photos, do you really not care?"
Carl turned his head to look at me, his tone callous and indifferent, "Since we're at the auction house, we naturally have to follow its rules. The highest bidder takes it. Sarah, isn’t that right?"
I know exactly what Carl is planning.
Those private photos were originally in Carl's hands, but now they are suddenly put up for auction. That means he's made a deal with the auction house.
If it were my sister here, she would keep doing a sky lantern bid all the way no matter how high the price goes to win these photos. In the end, most of that money would end up right in Carl's pocket. This way, he can ruin the Lennox family and drive us to bankruptcy without any effort.
His clever little scheme is working out perfectly for him. Too bad for him... I'm not my sister, and I don't care at all about these so-called private photos.
I curled my lips into a smile and said, "I won't bid this time."
Carl immediately frowned, eyeing me suspiciously.
I walked up to the center of the auction floor and said with a smile, "Enjoying something alone isn't half as fun as enjoying it with a crowd. A wonderful treat like this should be shared with everyone. Carl... you don't mind, do you?"
A commotion broke out among the crowd.
Carl stared at me, wary and confused, convinced I was just bluffing.
He sneered and said, "Of course I don’t mind."
"Good then." I nodded in satisfaction, plugged the USB drive directly into the computer, and opened the private video.
The sounds of a man and woman moaning rang out, and then the screen showed naked Carl and Marjorie.
