Peter Wolf pushed his way through the crowd, trying to find empty seats on the train. “Up here,” he called out to his wife, her sister and her mother, indicating a compartment with four vacant seats. He blocked the door with his broad shoulders to prevent others from pushing inside. Minutes later everyone in their party was finally seated. “I had no idea the trains would be this crowded,” Frau Klausen, his mother-in-law, said. “It’s been like this for quite a while.
