The air conditioner on the bus was busted. By the time I stepped off at campus, my hair had plastered itself to my forehead. Stepping into the building felt more like walking into heaven than school. My shoulder throbbed from all the jostling on the bus, but I managed to get up the flight of stairs to where my class was about to start without much trouble. When I turned down the hall I saw him. Standing outside the door to my class, Mike was leaning against the wall, his hands shoved in his front pockets, and a grave look on his face.
