Anastasie POV
*Two months until my Eighteenth birthday*
I wake up earlier than usual for a school day which is strange to say the least. I keep having this feeling that something is off, but I just disregard it as lack of sleep. I go about my morning and decide to take a shower to pass the time. After taking way too long I hear Mum yelling for me. "Anastasie if you don't hurry up you'll miss breakfast and be late for school."
"Coming mum, I didn't realize it was already 6am." I reply back. Throwing my school textbooks, my notebooks, and my sketchpad into my backpack I run down the stairs almost falling in the process. My brother Lucas is laughing like crazy at my near collision with the floor. I slap him in the arm and say "I remember you being clumsy once upon a time." He finally stops laughing while reminding me that "yes I was clumsy at one time, nowhere near as much as you though. Everything changed when I turned 18. Maybe it'll be the same for you sis."
He messes up my hair and then walks to his car. Yelling over his shoulder he says "Hurry up or I'm leaving without you." Since we only have two cars and Mum needs one for work, Lucas drops me off at school before heading to work himself.
After all these years I still don't know Mum and Lucas actually do for a living. They just say it's important work for some powerful people. I shrug and make my way to the school for another uneventful day. I'm passing all my classes, advanced classes mind you, with flying colors. A month and a half until I graduate and get out of here. It can't come fast enough.
At school it goes by slower than normal. I still can't get rid of this weird feeling I've had since this morning. I'm not popular at school but that's never bothered me. I have my two best friends Rae and Gabbie to make school fun. Ever since I can remember we've been best friends. We all live within walking distance of each other. I'm just glad I've never been bullied or anything like that. I mean most of the time I think people assume I'm invisible or something like that. Once school is over, I wait outside for my brother to pick me up. He's running later than usual, I start to worry so I call him but there's no answer. I decide to start walking because it's getting late and I'm the only left at the high school.
Thankfully in this little town of Emerald Cove everything is close together. The walk from Emeral Cove High is only 15 minutes, so it's nothing to complain over. I've tried walking to and from school many times to save my family the hassle of picking me up but they are adamant that they drive me. About half way home my brother pulls up next to me and just looks at me. I know that look, it's the I'm in trouble one. I get in the car and he looks at me, "Why didn't you wait at the school?". "I'm old enough to walk home, it's not that far, and besides everyone knows everyone in this town. I think I'd be okay." I argue back. All he can say in return is "I get that but you never know when someone new or dangerous can take you. You're very special you know." I shrug and roll my eyes ever since I was little Mum and Lucas have always told me I'm special. I don't know what it is exactly that they mean but it is what it is. It's times like this I miss Dad, he would have been in my corner. But he's been gone for almost 10 years now. I lost him when I was 8 years old. I was always a daddy's girl so it hit me the hardest. The reasoning behind his death is a mystery to me. Mum says wild animal attack but I don't fully believe it. Eventhough I'm not sure what I think the reason is.
Once home I head to my room and change into a baggy hoodie and some sweatpants. I pull out my homework and turn my favorite show The Originals on. I've always wanted to be in a world like that. Vamps, Witches, Werewolves all of that jazz. I thought it would be amazing to be a witch, to create and cast different spells or to create magical objects like potions or charms would be a dream come true. Too bad fiction could never become reality.
By the time I finish my work it's time to eat dinner. Mum made buffalo chicken wings, my favorite, and some handcut fries with cheese and bacon on top. Mum asks school was and I tell her uneventful as always. We share some more usual dinner conversation. Then I go upstairs to get a shower watch some more tv and get ready for school in the morning.
