I couldn't help but hear the pain in his words. I definitely heard the pain in his voice. I couldn't help but think of what or whom he lost exactly. If only he would just open up to me; I even silently prayed that he would just open up to me, then and there. I wanted to understand him. I wanted to be a part of his world. And even though he said it was for my protection, I couldn't help but want to shake him by the shoulders. Let me make that choice. Why did he feel that he had to make the choice for me? I continually felt like he held me at arms length. I wasn't sure if his intention was to protect me, or to protect himself.
