I sat there looking up into his eyes as he was crouched down to my level. He looked into my eyes with concern. His mask that he once had in the forest was long gone. I could see concern written all over his face. Did I want to confess that I have suppressed my wolf for so long that I could not shift on impulse now? I looked away from him, then embarrassed that apparently I can’t even wolf out in front of my soul mate.
Pathetic.
I felt his fingers on my chin to direct my gaze back to him.
“Hey, you’re safe with me…” He trailed off and I realized that he too, didn’t know my name.
“Milah, my name is Milah.”
He smiled then, “Milah” He repeated.
I couldn’t help but feel my heart flutter in my chest at the way my name sounded coming from his mouth.
“I’m Demetrius.”
I sighed as I looked quickly from left to right. I leaned in closer to him then, “I can’t shift right now, Demetrius.”
He nodded immediately and scooped me up.
“Wh-where are you taking me?”
“Infirmary. I’m patching you up, myself.”
I looked behind him to see the twins following promptly behind him. As wolves, I knew we all had superhuman hearing. Naturally, they heard our conversation.
“So Demetrius, are you going to tell me why you had the twins follow me?”
He let out an awkward chuckle, “Yeah, maybe we should really get to that infirmary to chat about… all of this.”
I couldn’t help but turn my attention to the direction he was walking in, and that’s when I saw it. The pack crest on pillars outside of the mansion and a huge crest right in the middle of the outside wall of the house. My attention snapped back to Demetrius. My eyes must have bugged out of my head because Demetrius immediately knew what I saw.
“It’s a family crest, well, and my brother’s pack’s crest. I have my own pack. Him being the older brother, he kind of took over the family business, so to speak?”
I grit my teeth, “This is why you had eyes on me,” I realized that I literally fell into the enemy’s lap.
He shook his head violently as he took longer strides into the mansion and down stairs into the infirmary. “No, that’s not it. I mean, yes and no. Look, all I know now is that I will never let anything bad happen to you. We’re mates. I would never…” He choked back the remainder of that sentence.
“So you’re Alpha Demetrius Kane, the half brother of Alpha Matthias Kane The wicked? Surely he didn’t get that title from being ever so hospitable”.
He let out a snort, “I believe he may have given himself that title.”
“Am I supposed to believe you’re so different than him?”
I mean, how was I really supposed to trust either of them? Alpha Demetrius Kane, sure, was the half brother of Alpha Matthias Kane The Wicked and, yes, allegedly, that was his full title. But I have heard from my dad and others that Matthias Kane was ruthless. I’ve heard that he has snapped mentally and literally would torture rogues for fun to make an example out of them. No one dared mess with Alpha Matthias Kane because of his insanity and ruthless ways. Also, I’ve heard that packs feared him because his pack was literally the strongest pack in the US, and probably the world. He ruled the pack with an iron fist. I heard Demetrius wasn’t exactly as maniacal, but his pack was next in line in terms of how strong of a pack they were.
While I was in my thoughts, Demetrius then gently let me down on a cot in a big room, lined with cots and all kinds of medical cabinets filled with supplies. There was even some high-tech lighting and medical machinery on one side of the room. He started to fiddle through cabinets and brought back a tub full of equipment. He then emptied the tub and started ripping open my jeans.
I let out a yelp.
“I hardly think this constitutes as torture,” He looked up at me with a smile.
“Depends on who you ask,” I muttered.
Demetrius then pulls out a needle and a vial.
“Wait-wait!” I held up my hands.
“It’s just to numb the area. You need stitches, Mila.”
I sighed, “Of course I do.”
“Just lie back, I’ll take care of this.”
I nodded. I laid back, and it seemed I must have drifted off. I was awoken by fighting. I could hear two men going back and forth; It seemed hushed and rushed tones. I started to get up and felt a sharp, burning pain in my leg. I looked down to see my leg was wrapped up in gauze and medical tape. I couldn’t help but groan.
“Demetrius, I feel like hell,” I grumbled. I looked up to see Demetrius near the doorway standing with an even taller man. My jaw immediately dropped. My heart began racing.
This man that stood before me was breathtakingly beautiful. Not the magazine cover beautiful, but just beautiful. He had an olive complexion, slightly darker than Demetrius; he had quite the scar that ran down his left cheek, from forehead to cheek, luckily sparing his left eye. His eyes were piercing blue. His raven black hair was in ringlets that flowed well past his shoulders. He had a bit of scruff for a beard. He wore a fitted black T-shirt, with black jeans. He seemed to feel me staring because in that moment he looked into my eyes long enough to say “Mate.”
I couldn’t stop the word from leaving my mouth either, “Mate.”
Demetrius looked from Matthias back to me and back to him, “WHAT THE-?!”
