13 Jessica took off toward the woods surrounding the house. She wasn’t sure if she had time to get away from the police before they swarmed what was supposed to be a safe house, but she was going to try. She wasn’t a runner, so by the time she reached the trees, she was out of breath and her muscles were screaming for relief. If she was ever free again, she was going to need to use the Birds of a Feather collection she had at home for something instead of lounging. Jessica didn’t stop when she got to the trees. She did slow down, but stopping would mean jail, and she’d come this far. She wasn’t giving up yet. The sirens screeched past her, moving toward the house.
