Chapter 5 — The Folder.
It happened on an ordinary afternoon.
The kind that gives no warning before changing everything.
Noah had stepped out to talk to a doctor.
He left his backpack on the chair beside Aisha.
At first she didn’t notice it.
Then the bag buzzed.
Once.
Then again.
A phone notification.
She hesitated.
She wasn’t the kind of person who looked through other people’s things.
But the screen lit up again.
And her name appeared.
Reminder: Show Aisha the videos if needed.
Her stomach tightened.
Slowly, carefully, she opened the bag.
Inside was the camera.
And a laptop.
The laptop was already half open.
On the screen was a folder.
Its name made her heart skip.
Aisha.
Her fingers hovered above the trackpad.
Something about this felt wrong.
But curiosity pushed harder than caution.
She clicked.
The folder opened.
Dozens.
No.
Hundreds of videos filled the screen.
Different dates.
Different days.
Different versions of them.
A cold wave of confusion washed over her.
She clicked one.
The video started.
Noah appeared on screen.
But he looked slightly younger.
More tired.
More serious.
He looked directly into the camera.
“Hi Aisha.”
Her breath caught.
“If you’re watching this,” he continued gently,
“it means it happened again.”
A chill spread through her chest.
“You’re probably confused right now,” Noah said.
“And honestly… that makes sense.”
He paused.
Then said the words that changed everything.
“You lose parts of your memory sometimes.”
Aisha stared at the screen, frozen.
“It’s a rare neurological condition,” Noah continued softly.
“And we’ve been dealing with it together.”
Her hands started shaking.
On the screen, Noah smiled sadly.
“So if you don’t remember me yet…”
He took a small breath.
“That’s okay.”
“I’ll help you.”

Aisha sat motionless in the waiting room.
Surrounded by hundreds of videos.
Hundreds of memories she didn’t remember living.
Footsteps echoed down the hallway.
Noah was coming back.
And suddenly the entire world felt different.
