CHANCE
The young lady motioned towards the only empty seat, inviting me to sit down as Kylee brought out more coffee and an appetizer sampler. I’ve heard her name and know she’s Phoenix’s little sister and Gen’s assistant. If I remember right, she’s a little younger than me.
I offer my hand to her. “Hi, I’m Chance. No need to stand.” I got a good look at her as we shook hands.
“Phoebe. Nice to meet you.” She has a nice, firm handshake.
“Likewise.” She’s pretty. Plates are passed clockwise, so I’ll be passing to her.
“I’m afraid I may have to challenge your grandma. I, too, make a mean pumpkin pie,” Natalie said to Dan.
Good for her!! Memaw, as we usually call Dan’s grandma, will be tickled to have friendly competition.
“I’ll be a judge,” I offer. “I like pie!”
::Me, too!:: My wolf, Magnus agreed.
“Memaw will love you, Natalie.” Dan is infatuated and currently has no shame in his game.
When the appetizers were served, Stella and Dr. Lockwood excused themselves. Conrad and Dan were calming down with some coffee in them and were eyeing the toasted ravioli and onion rings the same way Dan had been looking at Healer Natalie.
Kelli and Phoebe must’ve MindLinked each other. I noticed both of them zone out a little before nodding at each other.
When our drunk friends were preoccupied with food, Phoebe nudged me to lean in. “Kelli asked me to relay a message,” her warm breath tickled my ear. “Natalie hasn’t decided if she wants to take Dan to her place tonight or send him to his own room. It looks as though they’re hitting it off pretty well, but either way, Kelli wants to take Conrad home and wants to know if we can stick around a bit if needed.”
“Sure. I don’t have anywhere to be.” Might as well get to know Phoebe a little. I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to meet many others outside of the Armory.
I’m an employee there, not an official Guard member. I’ve only been of age a few months and my duties have involved traveling with my father and Dan in search of a new realm.
Decisions about the future of us Silver Moon descendants have mostly been put on hold due to the uncertainties of the potential quake, otherwise, I’d be cutting trees and building.
Phoebe leaned back in a few moments later. “Kelli says thank you very much.”
“Tell her she’s very welcome.”
“I guess that leaves us to chat.”
“I guess it does,” I smiled.

I enjoyed our meeting very much. I have to work until 3 today. I can’t MindLink, but my extension here is 305.
~Natalie
I inhaled her scent from the folded note before tucking it in my pocket. It would have to get me through until 3:05, or however long it took Natalie to clock out and return here.
Depending on what Chance’s dad had in store for us today, I might just be waiting in the hall then.
