Chapter 8: Visions

2918 Words
Rose sat in her room closed off from everyone. She did not understand why this was happening to her now when everything was just starting to feel normal. She did not know what to feel at the moment. She was not sure how it was possible for her to dream of a place she had never even seen before. Was there still a part of her that believed Abel was still out there? What did any of this mean? She couldn’t talk to her father about it, he would go into overbearing parent mode again. Her phone buzzed alerting her of a message from Sara: Are you okay?                                     I honestly don’t kno You scared me last night                                     Im srry, I thought I was over what ever happened to him but guess not Were you close with him?                                                 Yea we had been friends since                                                 We were little kidz Im srry you have to go Thru that must be Tuff                                                 It is but what can I do about it                                                 Ya kno If u need me im here                                                 Thanks She threw her phone on to her nightstand and grabbed her laptop. She started it up googling abandoned prisons; her search was a dead end. The only abandoned prisons that her search turned up, were hundreds of miles away and were proclaimed to be haunted. She shut her lap top closed, leaning back against her headboard she let out a sigh.             Rose drifted to sleep finding herself in the same hallway as before, she could hear the water dripping in the distance. She rushed towards the stairs hoping to be able to not only save Abel but the girl as well. When she reached the top of the stairs there was no one there, no screams, nothing but an empty hallway. She stood there puzzled, maybe he had already killed the girl. She walked back down the stairs remembering after the wolf had attacked Abel, he had dragged him down the stairs. She reached the bottom step and leaned slightly forward to peer around the corners. When she saw that the hallway was empty, she began to walk down it once more.             Unsure of where exactly to go she chose to follow the sound of the dripping water. She followed it to a solid steel door, opening the door slowly she found herself engulfed in darkness. She walked slowly through the pitch blackness, that even her canine eyes seemed to struggle to see in. A cell began to form in front her, she saw a figure laying upon the concrete floor. The figure seemed to barely be breathing. Rose jerked awake to a knock on her bedroom door. She climbed out of bed, stumbling half asleep to open it. She opened the door to find an Omega standing there with a worried look.             “Madam, there’s been an attack. Your presence is requested in your father’s office immediately.” “An attack?” Rose repeated puzzled. “Yes mam, your father wants to see you at once. Rose pulled on her robe that was hanging by the door and followed the Omega as she led her to the Alpha’s office. She entered her father’s office to find his face tired with stress and anger in his eyes. “Rose, there’s been an attack, and I think you should hear it from me first.” “Who was it,” she said her voice trembling. “Your friend Sara, she’s at the pack hospital.” Rose turned to head to the pack hospital. “Rose, wait there’s more.” She paused at the door, not turning around. “Was someone else attacked?” “No, just her but we don’t know who did this.” “What do you mean, you don’t know who did this. Didn’t the warriors pick up on a trespasser?” “That’s just the thing, we believe who ever did this is working with a warlock or witch. They were able to enter the border undetected.” “Is she going to be, okay?” she asked turning to face him. “I don’t know, but Rose I need to know where you got the potion from to block your scent.” “I got it from Abel, I don’t know where he got it from.”             Rose took a deep breath outside of Sara’s room at the pack hospital bracing herself for what was behind the door. She slowly opened the door; the room was dark except for the monitor screen. The beeping of the machines connected to Sara filled her hears. Slowly, she walked across the hospital room floor. When she reached her bedside table, she had to cover her mouth to stifle a gasp. Sara laid unconscious in the hospital bed, tubes seeming to connect all over. Where she didn’t have tubes there were bandages. She looked as if someone had thrown her in a meat grinder. Large ugly bruises covered what skin that was visible. The doctor walked in to check her vitals. “Why isn’t she healing?” Rose asked. “That we don’t know, we are currently researching as to what is slowing her healing process. While her wounds look like that of a Lycan attack, her body is not responding to them as such.” Rose sat in the chair adjacent to the hospital bed.             When the doctor was done checking on Sara, she left quietly telling Rose she was welcome to stay as long as she liked. Rose pulled out her phone to text Elaina.             Where are you                                                             At home my parents won’t let me leave                                                             Have you heard about Sara Yeah Im with her now                                                             Oh my god is she okay?!!! Shes hurt bad They have her hooked to all these machines                                                             How was anyone even able to get through                                                             The border I don’t know My dad doesn’t even know When She was finished texting Elaina, she stood up sliding her phone in her pocket. She headed back to the packhouse, vowing that she would find out who was behind this.             When she arrived home she went straight to her room, plopping down on the bed. She grabbed her laptop starting it up she googled “Wolf attacks” She scrolled through the list of results but there was nothing of use. She leaned back against her headboard closing her eyes, (She saw Sara sitting on her bed typing something on her phone.  After a few moments of what appeared to be her texting someone, she stood up pulling a jacket on and placing her phone in her bad before heading out. Rose followed her, out of the house heading to the northern border.  Sara walked into the woods heading to the direction of the mountain base. “What are you doing, Sara?” Rose asked herself considering Sara did not even see her let alone hear her. Sara walked until she came into a small clearing at the base of Snow Peak Mountain. She looked around as if she were looking for something or someone. A twig snapped in the distance; Rose felt the hairs on her neck stand. “Tyler,” Sara called into the darkness. Something was not right, none of this felt right to Rose. Another twig snapped closer than the last, “Quit playing around,” Sara called out slightly annoyed. Another twig snaps even closer, “Next time you want to scare someone, don’t call me.” She snapped as she headed back the way she came. Rose did not have time to react, when a large reddish-brown wolf jumped from the tree line attacking Sara. Sara tried to shift into her own wolf, but the wolf quickly attacked her again, tearing at her over and over. Sara screamed begging for someone to help, while Rose watched in horror unable to do anything. Rose watched as Sara became unconscious from the amount of damage the wolf had done to her body. The wolf then began to drag her back towards the pack, Rose ran behind the wolf. The wolf dragged Sara’s limp body undetected to the courtyard in front of the packhouse before darting back off into the woods.) “Rose, Rose honey it’s okay. It’s okay sweetheart,” Meridah spoke as she tried to wrap her arms around her screaming daughter. Rose opened her eyes to find her mother trying to calm her, safe in her room. It had been another dream, another strange dream. “What is wrong with me,” she thought as the tears flowed freely down her face. Once she was finally able to gain her composure, she pulled away from her mother wiping the tears that remained on her cheek. “Come on I’ll brew you some tea to help you sleep.” She followed her mother to the kitchen sitting at the table as her mother put the kettle on the stove. “Do you want to talk about it?” her mother asked placing a cup in front of her. “No, I don’t even know where to begin,” she responded. “You’ve been having nightmares constantly, lately. Your father and I are worried.” Rose looked down at her cup her hair falling around her face. “Rose, we both love you and were here for you when ever you want to talk.” “I know mama, and when I’m ready I promise, I will come to you.”             The next morning Rose quickly dressed and headed straight to the hospital. She walked into Sara’s hospital room to find the bed empty. Confused, she looked out in the hall looking for the Doctor. The hallway was empty, she began to walk down the hospital hall. Slowly the hall began to change, Rose looked around finding herself in a hallway that was beginning to become all too familiar to her.  The water continued to drip in the distance, as she walked towards the steel door. A piercing scream echoed throughout the hallway; Rose took off running towards the source of the scream. She ran up the stairs that she had ran up when she saw the wolf attack Abel and the girl. She came to an open door at the end of the second-floor hall. “Please, let me go,” a young girl pleaded from inside the room. “Shut up, bitch.”  A familiar voice barked. Rose tried to see the source of the voice but his was hunched over the crying girl with his back to her. “Please, I just want to go home,” the girl cried. The man grabbed the girl by her hair pulling her hair back forcing her to look at him.             Rose jerked awake finding herself sitting in the chair of Sara’s hospital room. Sara laid peacefully in the hospital bed, the monitor beeping its steady beep. She sat there replaying the dream in her head, suddenly an idea came to her. “How did she not think of this before,” she thought standing to leave. She walked swiftly back to the packhouse, grabbing her laptop off her desk as she entered her room. She sat on her bed as she powered on the computer. As soon as it was done loading, she clicked on the browser icon typing “Missing People around Rossdale” into the search bar. Several news reports loaded in the news reports, she clicked on two that were the closest to the area. A news article from a town five miles pass Rossdale called Amite loaded on to her screen. She could not stop herself from gasping as the picture loaded, it was the girl from her dream last night. She scrolled down reading the article: {Authorities are asking for anyone who may have information on 19-year-old Christina Robertson to come forward. Miss Robertson was last seen leaving her job at the local diner in downtown Amite around eleven-thirty last Thursday night. Her 1992 Ford F-150 was still parked a few blocks from the diner, when she was reported missing. Police stated they found no signs of struggle; however, they did find Miss Robertson’s keys in the ignition when they discovered her vehicle.} “How is this possible,” she thought. She clicked on the back button returning to the list, scrolling down through the list she did not see anything that really stood out until she clicked on next page. Rose stared at the thumbnail to a news article from roughly ten years ago. It was a picture of the girl she had seen with Abel the first dream. She clicked on the link: {The city small town Tulsa is shaken by the tragic discovery of a horrendous murder. Neighbors notified authorities that a house on 4th Avenue looked to have been burglarized when they noticed the front door looked to have been broken off its hinges. Upon further investigation by Tulsa police the bodies of 54-year-old Thomas Mills, 50-year-old Miyah Mills, and 9-year-old Franklin Mills were discovered mutilated within the home. Fourteen-year-old Hannah Mills is reported to be missing. Police are asking for anyone who may have heard or saw anything that might lead to Hannah’s whereabouts and the arrest of who ever is behind this to come forward.} She closed her laptop, “They weren’t just dreams, they couldn’t have been.” That night Rose struggled to sleep, every time she closed her eyes, she would see their faces.             The next day she walked down to her father’s office knocking before she opened the door. Her father sat at his desk reading over the stack of papers in front of him. “Do you have a minute?” she asked. “Yes, sorry I never heard you come in.” Daniel looked up gesturing for her to sit in the chair across from him. “I was hoping to speak with you anyway.” She sat in one of the leather chairs in front of the desk, “Any new information on with what happened to Sara?” “We’ve made progress in tracking down the whereabouts of three witches and two warlocks that live in the area. Now we just need to figure out how to bring them in for questioning without causing an uproar.” “You fear they may have connections that will lead to a war?” “Would we not go to war for one of our own?” “Fair enough, so what now?” “I don’t know, honestly.” “What did you want to talk about?” “I know you have been through a lot here lately, and I promise once this is all over, I will find a way to make it up to you but.” “But what?” she asked afraid of what her father was about to say. “The Elders have insisted we proceed with the ceremony. They said with it being only five days away it’s too late to cancel.” Her heart sank, although she knew it would still be expected she had hoped different. “I understand, its at the hands of the Elders not you. I don’t blame you for the situation.” “You have been through more than I have ever wished for you. I am amazed at how you have not only handled it but grown through it. This had been a hell of a year, from trying to decide which of your brothers will be Alpha considering there’s never been twin first born heirs before, your ceremony, Abel, and now an attack upon a pack member I can’t even explain. I feel as if the world itself is resting on my shoulders.” “You’re a great Alpha, you have held this pack together through everything.” “Enough about my troubling thoughts and worries. What is it that you wanted to discuss?” Deciding not to talk to him about the dreams she had been having, “You know I have completely forgotten. It must have not been important.” “Well, if you need me or think of it again, I’ll be here,” her father spoke as she stood to leave.             Rose headed back up to her room the talk with her father had brought her no peace of mind. She couldn’t burden him with anymore at the moment, he had enough on his plate. This was something she would have to handle on her own. She fell back on her bed pulling the pillow over her face screaming into it. She bolted up, “Why had she not thought of it before. If the two girls were real, and she wasn’t just dreaming but actually seeing them. Then that meant Abel was real too, and he was still alive.” She grabbed her laptop once again and got to work. If he were truly out there, she would find him no matter what.
