2623 Words
For the last 200 years Zar had led the Blood Moon Pack. Now an old wolf, he planned to hand over the title to his son Cain. A week before he announced Cain as the Alpha, a messenger arrived sent by the Elders. While it was not uncommon for the Elders to send a messenger to the packs. The letter itself requested all the Alpha’s and their successors to meet with the Elders at the New Moon Pack on the day of the next full moon. In all the years the packs have existed, such a request has never been made. The next full moon was in three nights, it was a two-day travel to the New Moon pack’s territory. “What could the Elders want with the Alpha’s all of a sudden.” A knock at the door interrupted him from his thoughts. “Come in,” he called tying his sack closed. “You wanted to speak with me father?” Asked Cain as he entered. “Yes, close the door and have a seat.” Cain closed the door taking the seat his father motion towards by the fireplace. Zar finished tying his sack and took the seat adjacent to his son. “Are you planning to travel?” Cain asked eyeing the sack. “I am indeed, are attendance is expected by the Elders.” “Our attendance?” “A messenger arrived earlier today bearing a letter from the Elders.” Zar picked up a parchment from the table and handed it to Cain. Cain read the following letter:   “Successor?” he asked as he finished reading. “For 200 hundred years I have led this pack. I have seen more than I wish you to ever see, but it is without a doubt that I have become an old wolf. It is time for me to step down as Alpha. I have chosen you as my successor to the title. I had planned to announce this in the next week, but it would appear the Elders have plans of their own. It is a two-day travel to the New Moon Pack’s territory. Pack a bag for we leave tonight.” “It will be honor to lead behind you father, your belief in me is rewarding on it’s on. If this is all you wished to discuss at this time. I would like to excuse myself to my quarters to pack, and prepare for our travels,” “You are excused. We shall leave when the hour strikes nine.” Cain left to pack, leaving Zar to return to his thoughts. Half an Hour before nine Zar called for the horses to be saddled. While they could travel in less than half the time by shifting. It would be difficult to do so with their sacks. Cain met him in the courtyard five minutes before nine. They strapped their travel gear to their saddles and set out. Only stopping to rest the horses. They arrived at the Northern border of the New Moon Pack on the day of the Full Moon. Two warriors had been sent to bring them to the Pack House, to rest and wash up before meeting with the Elders. They arrived at the beautiful medieval looking Pack House. The pack house was built to resemble that of a four-tower castle. “Sara, our Omega will lead you to your rooms in the East Wing. If you need anything before the Alpha calls for you, just let her know.” Spoke one of the Warriors who had been sent to greet them. Just then Sara the Omega they spoke of appeared at the door. “I’ve been expecting you, two of the Alphas have already arrived. We are currently waiting for Alpha Charles of the Crescent Moon Pack to arrive. Until then I will take you to your quarters where you can wash up, and rest if you like.” Later that evening, Zar was awoken to a loud knock. “Enter,” he called. Sara entered the room with her head slightly bowed. “Alpha Charles has arrived; The Elders are requesting for all the Alpha’s to join them in dining hall now.” “Thank you, Sara. I’ll head there at once.” She quickly exited the room, leaving Zar to dress. The time had finally come to learn of what and why their presence was called for. Zar finished dressing in time for another knock on the door. He opened the door to find Cain on the other side. “Our presence has been called for” “As I am aware, shall we head down to grace them at this time,” Zar responded with a smile. His tone was playful, but he was fighting knots in his stomach. They entered the room to find the other Alphas and their successors present. Interesting enough along with the four alphas, their successors, and the four elders, were five individuals whose purpose Zar was unaware. The only thing he was certain was that each individual smelt of a pack. “Zar, it’s been a long-time old friend since we last spoke in person.” Spoke one of the Elders. “Indeed, it has, shall we begin.” Zar replied as he and Cain took their seats. “As you all are aware we have called you here today to discuss not only matters that we are sure yourselves have considered, but matters presented to us through vision by the Moon Goddess herself. For two-hundred years you have all lead your packs with dignity, and we are aware that you yourselves are tired and prepared to step down from the role as Alpha. We also understand that you all have made plans to do so by the end of month to come. Do not worry for we support you on this matter whole heartedly. In fact, the Moon Goddess supports the decision. Times are changing, the world itself is changing every day. Future Lycans will not live as long we have in the past or even today. After your successors have taken the role of Alpha a new law shall take place. The packs are steadily growing and has been deemed quite a lot for one wolf to handle on his own. Moving forward the Alpha will rule with his mate as his equal. The pack will know her as their Luna. He will also choose a Second in command to be his Beta as will the Luna to be hers. Lastly the Alpha and Luna will both choose a third in command as their Gammas. The Alpha, Luna, their Betas and Gammas will all be required to live in the pack house itself. Following that an Alpha will no longer lead his pack until he can’t anymore. He will have a ceremony which all the females of the age of 16 from all the pack’s will attend to celebrate his first-born son turning 16 in hope’s the son will find a mate. If the son finds his mate on this night, the female Lycan will leave her pack to join the pack of her mate. Both him and his mate will began training immediately to take over Alpha and Luna roles at the age of eighteen. If he sadly does not find his mate, he will train until he finds her and then take over the role of Alpha. Lastly, no longer will there be four Elders. Moving forward there will be five. One born in every pack, shown to us through vision by the Goddess. The five Wolves you see before you are our successors who will one day take the role of Elder.” “If this is the wish of our Goddess, who are but humble servants, to question that.” Spoke Charles. The rest of the Alpha’s agreed. “Do we have the blessing of the Goddess and the Elders to move forward with our plans for our successors.” Zar asked. “You are to return home and plan a ceremony, a ceremony of which we shall attend to bless the passing of the title from one Alpha to the next.” “So, it shall be,” spoke Alpha Xavier. “Gentlemen if there are no questions to the matter, and all are in understanding. We bid you a goodnight.” “Goodnight,” the Alphas spoke in sync. Each standing to return to their quarters for the night. The following morning Zar and Cain awoke to begin their travels back to their home pack. The trip was silent, both spent the next two days lost in their own thoughts. Cain was Zars only living son, his bothers and their mother were killed long ago. Cain was born after the Goddess gifted Zar with a second chance mate, after spending many years alone in the world. At the age of 23 Cain had yet to meet his mate. They arrived back home late in the night. Cain called for two stablemen to take the horses. Both him and Zar headed to their own private quarters weary of their travels. That night Cain dreamt of woman he had never seen before. Her beauty was truly captivating, she smelled of honeysuckle. He found her mesmerizing to say the least. When he woke in the morning, he found himself craving the woman in his dreams scent. He dressed and headed to the dining hall in hopes that food would distract him from his dream. He took his usual seat to the left of his father, while his mother sat to the right. “Attention, Everyone.” Zar called to the pack. The morning chatter fell silent. “I have an announcement to make. One week from today several guest from the other packs, and our Elders will be joining us in a celebration. For one week from today I shall be stepping down as your Alpha. My son Cain will be taking on the role of as the pack’s new Alpha. For a moment everyone sat in silence. Before suddenly, the entire table broke out in applause and howls. The rest of the day Cain was congratulated by various members of the pack. The next week the pack was in full swing of preparing for the ceremony. It was the first of many to come. On the day of the ceremony guest began to arrive at the fall of the sun. Cain waited in his quarters, privately rehearsing the events to take place as the Elders had spoken. The Elders had arrived the day before to speak to Zar and Cain of a ritual the Goddess called the passing. She would bless the pack with a means of communication called mind link which they could communicate with one another no matter the distance through thought. A knock on his door alerted him that it was time. He took a deep breath before heading down to the courtyard. As soon as he entered the courtyard, he was hit with the most mesmerizing scent of honeysuckle. He looked around the sea of people, allowing his nose to guide him. Then he found her, the woman from his dream. Her Soft brown curls flowing down her back, her honey gold eyes staring at him. He felt a growl build up in his throat, and as the word mate forced its way out. He had found her, and on this day of all days. The Goddess had brought them together. He took her hand leading her to the stage where his father awaited him. Zar looked at his son and the young woman with knowing eyes. His son had found his mate, and not a moment too late. He would congratulate his son later, but now they had matters to attend to. “Wolves and She-wolves alike I thank you for your attendance on this memorable day. A new tradition begins this moment not only for The Blood Moon Pack, but for all the packs led by the Goddess. Today is a remarkable day that will go down in history. I Alpha Zar will officially pass the title of Alpha to my only living son. Cain step forward as the rightful heir and leader of the Blood Moon Pack.” Zar bellowed so that all could hear. Cain stepped towards his father, leaving roughly six inches between them. An Elder stepped towards the center of them holding a blade with the pack’s crest etched into it. “Zar of The Blood Moon Pack. We thank you for your leadership. We thankyou for all the years you have committed to Alpha. We thank you for continuously living your life, by the wishes of the Goddess. Do you willingly relinquish your title of Alpha?” “I Do,” spoke Zar as he held out his palm to the elder. The Elder then used the blade to place a cut along his extended palm holding his hand over a goblet to catch the dripping blood. “Cain, we welcome you as leader. We trust you to guide us. We believe in your commitment. Do you accept the title of the Alpha as it is the Goddess’s wish?” “I do.” Spoke Cain, preparing himself for the next step. “By her will,” the Elder spoke handing Cain the Goblet to drink. “I present to you Blood Moon Pack, your new Alpha.” As Cain drank from the Goblet the voices poured into his head. Confusion spreading amongst the faces in the crowds. Using the mind link gifted to them he spoke to his pack, “A gift from the Goddess herself.” The crowd burst into howls. Cain and his Luna birthed a son a year later, Javar who in turn took over the pack on his 18 birthday. Javar turned over the pack to his son Goliath who in turn turned over the pack to his son Daniel. Overtime the pack grew in more ways than one each Alpha leaving a part of themselves behind. Javar was the first son to have a coming-of-age ceremony at 16 to find his mate. Goliath not only built a school for the pups to learn but was the first Alpha to bring in humans to help with the pack. Daniel was the first Alpha to allow wolves to decide whether they wanted to continue their education at the pack’s school or go to the neighboring human school after learning that it was possible for a Lycan to have a human as a mate. Daniel and his Luna Meridah wanted peace for their pack. They did not want their pack to fear humans but to respect them as equals. They worked along side their Betas David and Lilly; their Gammas Gregory and Diane to bring a New Coming. Meridah birthed twin boys Daniel and William. Her second pregnancy she birthed a baby girl Jessica. While the boys both had Daniel’s Sandy hair and Meridah’s blue eyes. Jessica didn’t look like that of her mother or her father. She had fiery red hair, emerald, green eyes, fair skin, and freckles that danced across the bridge of her nose. While the fact that she looked nothing like ether parent was odd, but not something they found alarming by any means. Although the Elders took a great interest in the child, often checking on her. Randomly visiting the pack to see how she had grown.
