Chapter 9: Confess my feelings

Wright's POV
I was seated in the library at night. It was only me in the room. Rain was falling outside so I sat down till the rain goes down.
I suddenly flashed back to Claire. when I kissed her and her reaction.
In a second, Claire entered the library. I saw her then stood up.
I wasn't expecting her to come to the military by that time.
" What are you doing here, miss Claire?" I asked.
She looked at me with tiny eye. She must have been stressed during the day.
" Can we talk, high boss." She whispered.
Her voice was nearly a whisper. She only took a glimpse of me then sat down on the chair.
I sat down also. I was curious about why she came to the military so late at night.
A thunder strikes. She was still not saying anything.
" Why are you here by this late time, miss Claire." I asked her again.
" I couldn't sleep." She replied.
I looked into her eyes. Every where was silent for some seconds. What can she be doing here late at night or want to tell me?
" You kept acting like nothing had happened and that took away my sleep." She broke the silence.
Could she be thinking about the kiss. could that be the reason she came to the military even when the rain was falling?
" Are you thinking about the kiss?" I asked.
" Yes, I can't just forget about it." She immediately replied.
It was like she was expecting me to start the conversation.
" Are you angry?" I questioned.
She pursed for a moment. It was like she was thinking about what to say next.
" I'm more worried than angry, high boss." She expressed.
" I'm....
" It's my first kiss and it was unexpected." She whispered.
It's really her first time, it's also mine. That made my heart fluttered.
" It's also my first time, I'm sorry." I uttered.
" Did you want to date me?" She finally asked.
What am I going to tell her, I thought about kissing her many times before doing it.
" Why did you kiss me?" She asked.
The question left me speechless, I've got to say something.
" Just because......just because I thought it was the best thing to do at that time." I finally replied.
" Really?" She exclaimed.
Her voice was calm and peaceful even though she felt something else inside her.
" It's not what you think, miss Claire. I thought a thousand times before doing it." I explained.
" Really, you...." She was really shocked.
" I like you miss Claire, I know I might sound funny but I have feelings for you." I uttered.
I was expecting her reply. Her eyes was sparkling as she she lift her eyes and looked at me.
I looked into her eyes, my eye not leaving hers.
" Feelings! high boss, you are the second commander of the military." She expressed.
" It doesn't matter." I said.
" I told you I came to the military for my childhood friend and now you are confessing your feelings to me." She gasped.
" I don't want you to get the wrong Idea, you are the first person I will be saying this to." I explained.
" High boss!" She exclaimed.
" I..."
" What did you want me to do now?" Claire looked into my eyes.
I am saying this to her because I finally know she is my childhood friend.
I should win her back to me even though she didn't recognize me.
" Can we be friends?" I said.
Her eyes changed, she was really giving me a different expression.
" You want me to date you?" She asked in surprise.
" We can be friends now....., I mean, can we date?" I asked slowly.
" You want me to date you?" She questioned.
" I won't force you. you can decide, miss Claire." I said.
" I will think about it." Claire said.
I looked at her eyes, I knew she would give me the opposite answer. She really cared about her childhood friend, Ryan.
" miss Claire, did you agree?" I asked her again.
Her beautiful eyes lit up and met mine.
" I can't....I'm scared I can't." She uttered.
" Why are you scared, did you think I will treat you badly?" I asked.
" No, I just can't." She stood up.
" Why?" I stood up and held her hand.
" You are not my type." She uttered.
I left her hand immediately, did she really don't have feelings for me or is she just scared she might be with the wrong person.
She did well to avoid an eye contact with me.
" But, I...." I pursed.
" I have a boyfriend." She said.
In her eyes, I could see she was lying. Her voice was shaking as she said that.
She was really bad at lying.
" You have a boyfriend?" I asked.
" Yes, I love him so much and he also loves me, I can't cheat on him." She uttered.
I stayed calm, I knew why she said that. She really cared about Ryan.
She looked everywhere for me but couldn't recognize me. How can she forget my look but still kept looking for me.
That made me curious but I can't ask her why till I find the right time to tell her who I am.
" High boss, I will leave now." She looked at me.
" I....." I pursed.
She took a glimpse of me then left immediately. She must have felt my gaze heavy behind her.
I was happy at a point but it changed after she left. Part of me was sad, maybe because she didn't recognize me.
I thought she was going to recognize me before I realize it but I ended up being the one to recognize her first.
