Chapter 1: The Start

The sunlight was shining brightly through the purple curtains, down onto the large bed that had a small pale child curled up within it. Her light auburn hair splayed out on the pillows and her arms stretched out in either direction as she snoozed away peacefully.  That is until a figure stood in her doorway, gazing in at her, before rushing the bed and jumping onto it right beside her. A squeal came from the once sleeping child as she was bumped up into the air for a moment before bouncing back onto the mattress. Her blue eyes snapped open and began to search the bed. Laughter filled the room as the culprit sat up and gave her a beaming smile.  “Darius! You could have woken me up the regular way.” Despite the initial shock, she wasn’t angry with his actions. Instead, she was stifling her own giggles from his infectious laughter. She stared up at her older brother, his light beige skin seeming to glow in the sun's morning light that filled her room. “Come on Trin, you know that isn’t any fun.” The older boy leaned down a hand and rustled her hair which earned a cry of indignation from the smaller party. “I didn’t want you to miss breakfast either.” Those words caught her attention as she fixed him with a hungry stare. “The Omega’s are cooking waffles today. With all the fixings for toppings.” Darius grinned as the look on the little girl’s face lit up with what was for breakfast.  “Why didn’t you say that first?” She clambered over her older brother’s legs to get off the bed. She paused for a moment to eye her brother who just raised an eyebrow back. Then she was leaping at him, hands outstretched for his hair, and sent them both toppling into the bed. The two broke out into a fit of laughter as she ran her hand through his black hair to rustle it up as he had done to her own hair.  “Okay, okay Trinity. We really need to get up or we might not get any strawberries.” He spoke in a mock-serious tone as he grabbed her and sat them both back up on the bed. Trinity gave another giggle before she finally began to climb out of the bed. Darius was already off the bed and heading for the door with his head high and a bright smile on his face.  He turned back towards Trinity as he reached the door, blue eyes warm and full of affection for the younger one. She smiled back at him, warmth filling her chest as she began to cross the room to join him.  “Come on Trinity. Let’s go.” The little girl froze as her brother’s voice sounded off, the doorway behind him giving way to nothing but darkness. When she tried to look at him it was like his facial features were blurring, all but his smile which began to grow wider.  “You don’t want to leave me alone now, do you?” His voice warped as he spoke, sending chills down the young child’s back as she stood there like her feet were rooted to the ground. The room around her started spinning at a violent rate and had her closing her eyes to not get dizzy from watching it.  “Come. Trinity.” The voice no longer belonged to her brother, it was a monstrosity that she didn’t recognize anymore. When she attempted to open her eyes she was met with a sight that horrified her. Blood was soaking the front of the light purple shirt that he had been wearing, the top half of his face a blurry mess while his mouth was open in a creepy smile. A scream tried to work its way through her throat but her mouth wouldn’t work. “Let’s go.” The fake Darius reached out towards her, blood covering his outstretched hand which appeared mangled. He crept towards her one agonizing step at a time with bloody footsteps following him. Her entire body was shaking on the spot that she was stuck, limbs feeling heavy and a deep coldness settling in her chest. Trinity’s breathing became erratic as he got closer and closer.  His hand was inches from touching her face, jaws opening wide and- Trinity’s eyes snapped open as intense beeping filled her room. The sleek black alarm clock on the stand near her bed was flashing white with the current time. A long groan escaped her lips as she rolled over to get closer to it and reached out blindly with one hand to hit the button to stop it. Once the noise stopped she pulled her arm back to push herself up on the bed.  Her light auburn hair was a raggedy mess around her head as she stretched arms high and let out another groan. After feeling a few satisfying pops in her back she began to shuffle off the bed and towards the bathroom door of her room. As she entered and flipped on the light she frowned at the sight that greeted her in the mirror, besides her awful bedhead that is.  “No need to frown so deeply.” Her wolf, a light auburn color with darker markings around her face and chest, raised an eyebrow at her. “I just want to make sure you are alright. That nightmare was-” “I know what it was. No need to repeat details.” Trinity cut her off before she could finish as she reached for one of her drawers and pulled out her hairbrush. She pointedly ignored her wolf as she began to run the brush through her hair to make it look semi-presentable for work that day.  “I wasn’t going to repeat any details.” Her wolf soothed as she walked from one side of Trinity to the other in the mirror. “I was just offering a chance to talk about it.” The large wolf sat down and had her amber eyes trained on the woman before her as she brushed out her hair.  “There is nothing to talk about. It’s over, I’m awake.” She shot back as she got rid of the last of the tangles within her hair, setting the brush down and reaching for a hairband to tie up her hair for the day. Pointedly ignoring her wolf as she did up her hair in a loose braid.  “Okay, okay.” The wolf relented with a small sigh and a disappointed shake of her head. “Nightmares aside,” this earned her wolf a nasty look that was met with a cheeky look, “do not forget what you promised Harper this afternoon.” She reminded Trinity as she finished up doing her hair.  “Of course I wouldn’t forget!” Trinity claimed huffily as she looked at her wolf with a frown. Though after a few moments of thinking she bowed her head shamefully. “Um, what was it again?” The woman asked with a sour look on her face at having forgotten.  Her wolf gave her a stern look with a heaving sigh. “As a regular human, you would be hopeless.” She stated, met with indignation from Trinity. “You were going to help him with his hunting techniques.” The wolf helpfully supplied after a few moments, which caused Trinity to perk up as she remembered.  “That’s right, we are going out into the forest so he can practice hunting rabbits.” She slapped her hand to her forehead for forgetting such an important thing. “Thank you for reminding me.” While she thanked the wolf she wasn’t at all happy about having to do so. With one last glance at herself in the mirror and the wolf that stared pointedly at her then she was leaving the bathroom in the direction of her closet to search for what she would be wearing for the day.  “You don’t need to sound so upset when thanking me.” Her wolf sounded amused as Trinity entered her large closet and shifted through the shirts for one that she would need for work.  She didn’t bother giving a reply as she found a black short sleeve shirt to wear for the day. Off came the dark purple shirt, which was a few sizes too big, that she typically wore when she slept and on came the shirt for work. Next came the pants, which she began to skim through until she found a pair of dark blue jeans that she felt satisfied in wearing. She slipped from the black pajamas, which had purple sheep on them, and then quickly pulled on the jeans.  After she gathered the dirty clothes she walked out of her closet, tossing them into her laundry basket as she made her way towards her dresser. She opened the top drawer and pulled out a pair of black and purple striped socks and a dark purple belt. Trinity headed for her bed and slipped on the belt and then sat on the bed to put on her socks. A quick look around the room revealed her shoes tucked up against her door and her phone next to her alarm clock. She reached across the bed and grabbed it, tucking it into her pocket as she got up and crossed the room towards her shoes.  Once she slipped them on she stood in front of her door, hand to the handle as she stared at the dark brown wood.  “Are you ready?” The question was more so tinged with teasing intentions rather than any actual worry.  Trinity let out a small laughing huff at the question and rolled her eyes in a good-natured manner. “Please, I can handle this.” She stated in a firm manner before she turned the knob and swung the door open.  Immediately her senses were greeted by the hearty smell of food being cooked from downstairs and the noise of all the pups running about. With their mothers doing their best to round up their kids to get them ready for the day. She crossed the threshold of her doorway, closing her door behind her, and heading down the long hallway to the stairs.  She paused as a pair of pups rushed past her, giggling to themselves as they shoved at one another to get ahead of the other. She recognized the two pale brown children as the twins Addison and Lewis Matthews, youngest pups to the packs delta Aiden Matthews. Trinity chuckled at the sight as they ran ahead and past the corner, both competing to be the first one down the stairs. Then she continued once again on her way to where the delicious aroma of breakfast was calling her.  As she rounded the corner and reached the top of the stairs she witnessed dozens of pups and their mothers moving around on the first floor. It was quite the sight for her to watch as all the various mothers got their kids ready to go to school. It was always this wild in the morning on weekdays, she remembered fondly when she used to be a part of that very fray.  By the door, all the older pups were ready and waiting while their mothers gathered up their younger siblings. As she descended the stairs she spotted a familiar face among them.  “Harper!” She waved to a pale brown fifteen-year-old boy among the group of older pups who caught sight of her, and headed through the throng of young pups to meet her at the bottom of the steps. “Did you sleep well?” “Hi, Trinity!” He beamed, light blue eyes bright and happy as the two shared a quick embrace. “Slept like a newborn pup, no need to worry.” The younger of the two assured her with another bright smile. This brought a wide smile to her own face as she reached out and rustled his dark auburn hair fondly.  “Good, you’ll need to be focused for our training session this afternoon.” She laughed and gave him a one arm hug before letting him go. “Now go and learn all that school stuff.” The older werewolf gestured in a grand manner towards the door as the mothers began to herd their younger pups towards the doorway and out to the vans.  “Pssh. You are such a dork.” Harper shoved her shoulder in a friendly manner and laughed as he headed for the door alongside the others.  Trinity stood there until the young teen was out the door, then began to make her way into the kitchen as her stomach growled. The kitchen was alive with many omega’s around the stovetops and counters and the tables filled with warriors and hunters alike. A wide array of breakfast food was prepared and spread down the largest counter top in the kitchen.  Which she immediately began to help herself to. The young woman grabbed a plate and grabbed a quick assortment of some strawberries, scrambled eggs, toast, and a bagel covered in cream cheese. She was already eating from her plate as she walked to the large tables full of her fellow packmates. That is until a familiar figure standing near the table has her changing direction and heading for her.  “Good morning mom!” Trinity spoke cheerfully as she reached her mother, taking a bite of her toast as she did.  “Good morning dear.” Mariana smiled sweetly at her daughter, reaching out a pale hand to lovingly caress her cheek. “You have work today, correct?” The Luna asked her child as she brought her hand back to her side.  “Mhm!” Her daughter gave an enthusiastic nod in reply as her mouth was full of toast at the moment. With a gulp she gave a small cough. “I work the longer shift today but at least Robyn works that with me.” Trinity gave a relieved sigh at having someone familiar working such a long shift alongside her.  “How wonderful. She left half an hour ago for work. Please tell her to stay safe for me, will you?” The older woman clasped her hands together and closed her eyes with a soft smile crossing her lips.  “Course I will, mom.” Trinity finished what was left on her plate, practically pouring the scrambled eggs into her mouth and then setting the plate on the table nearby. She still held the bagel and went to take a bite of it.  “Incoming.” She registered the warning a little too late as strong warm arms wrapped around her middle and effortlessly lifted her a little in the air. A squeal left her lips as she was spun around in a circle while holding tightly to the bagel she still held. Her mother’s laughter filled the already noisy atmosphere of the room. After a few more spins she was set down once again and free to turn and face the culprit. Though she had a wide smile on her face, heart racing slightly as she faced the man standing behind her.  “Good morning to you too Kylan.” Her eyes took in his entire stature, admiring him as the sun lit up his deep brown skin and made his dark green eyes seem to shine like emeralds. His black hair was tousled in the way it always was, wild just like she loved to see it. Her arms came up around his neck as his own wrapped around her waist.  The two shared a sweet kiss between one another, Trinity feeling her heart beating wildly once they pulled back and stared into one another’s eyes. She saw complete adoration and love in his eyes, reflected in her own as they seemed to get lost staring at one another.  “Mhm,” Marianna cleared her throat and that had the two pulling apart sheepishly and turning to face the packs Luna, “you’ll be late for work if you don’t get a move on.” She gestured to the large old wooden clock that towered over the kitchen, causing both to spare a glance to it.  “Oh s**t!” Trinity’s eyes went wide as she realized how close the time was getting. “We do have to go!” She grabbed Kylan’s hand with her free hand, the other still holding valiantly onto the bagel, and began to tug him in the direction of the door. “Bye mom! See you after work!” The young woman exclaimed as the two headed out of the kitchen.  “See you Mrs. Shaw.” Kylan gave a small wave to her before the pair were out of sight.  Trinity led the way through the lingering pups and mothers who were just about to leave themselves. Once out the door they headed for the large garage that held the various vehicles of the pack. Their destination being a black truck that had two streaks of purple running from the hood all the way down the length of the truck. As they reached it Kylan released her hand and walked past her to open her side of the door with a mock bow.  “Your chariot awaits, my lady.” He teased and earned a chuckle from Trinity as she slipped past him and climbed up into the truck. “Thank you, my dear knight.” She shot right back as she gave him a kiss to his cheek before he closed the door. Then he was rushing to his side of the truck and hoping in effortlessly. He revved the engine to life and began to slowly pull from his parking space and down the long road that led away from the pack house.  Her blue eyes turned to take in the dark purple house, with the doors, windows, and roof painted black, as it started to get smaller the further they got from it. On the front porch her mother stood, waving goodbye to them. She rolled down the window on her side and leaned out enough to wave back to her mother, smiling wide as she did. Then she was sitting back in her seat and watching the scenery roll by as Kylan drove in the direction of her work.   “Ready for today?” He asked as he gave her a side glance from where his eyes were focused on the forest road before them. “Course I am, it’s just work.” Trinity waved him off with a little laugh. “What is the worst that can happen?”  If only she had known what today’s events would hold for her.
