CHAPTER 10: Welcome back Katie
I just woke up and was overjoyed since, at long last, I am now a high school student. I wanted to meet my friend Marcus and tell him about all of the crazy things that had happened to me at my last school. Despite this, I went directly to the bathroom to take a bath and am currently dancing and singing strange tunes. I was so ecstatic that I walked straight to my closet and got my uniform.
"Oh, this is perfect for me! I said, giddy with anticipation for my new attire.
It's a navy blue uniform with a pair of skirts that aren't minis but are still above the knee, and a navy blue shirt. We also have checkered. I love my new outfit, and our ID is super cute and high-tech.
I walked in front of the mirror to fix myself; I applied lip gloss and face powder, and I even used the skincare necessities that my mother had given me; of course, this was examined by my mother's friend, who is a dermatologist. I stepped in front of the mirror to inspect my entire attire after straightening my face and doing modest make-ups.
“Omo!" I guffawed when I saw myself in my new uniform; it's perfect for me, and the fact that I'm taller now only adds to its appeal.
After that, I walked to the kitchen and found that my mother had finished her meal and was getting ready to go to work.
"Good morning, mum," I said as I approached the kitchen sink, where she was washing her hands.
"Good morning, baby love," she replied, kissing me on the cheek.
She cleaned her hands and looked at me, nodding as if she agreed with my outfit for today.
She adored me and said, "You look, cute love."
"Like you my adorable mommy,” I said and smiled sweetly “Anyways, will you send me to school, mommy?" " I inquired, as it appeared that she would be late for work already.
"No baby love, I told Mara to tell Dani that he will be the one sending you to school today, and I am sorry my love I'm going to be late for work when I'll still wait for you; Dani will send you to school later, right?" She inquired of our new maid.
Mara replied, "Yes ma'am, he will be waiting for you, ms. Katie," and my mother left for work.
As I spoke with Mara, as I ate my breakfast. I have been thinking of this she looks young and maybe she is around 17 or 18.
"Hey, Mara, you appear to be quite young; are you a student?" I inquired as she was wiping down the kitchen sink.
“No ma’am,” she answered me which made me sad.
“Why so?” I asked her
"I came to a halt, ma'am," she replied, drawing my attention to her.
“Why? Anyway, did you eat breakfast this morning? " Instead, I enquired of her.
"Not yet, ma'am," she said, I frowned with her answer. "You can go first," she said.
"No Mara, come here and eat with me," I told her, and she was a little timid at first, but I made her feel at ease because we were both young here.
"Hmm, so you're not studying anymore, why is that?" " I inquired, and because she was busy putting food on her plate, she remained silent for a long. I eagerly awaited her response.
"We don't have money, ma'am," she explained, "I am the eldest and I need to work for my siblings," she added, which piqued my interest once again.
“Wait? You came to work for your siblings, right? Why? What about your parents' situation? " I inquired because it is not her obligation to act as her siblings' surrogate parents.
"They have their own families now, and we are left out," she replied, which surprised me.
"Oh no, I'm sorry for that; in any case, I'll ask my mother if she can send you to school," I told her, because it really breaks my heart knowing her situation.
"Oh no ma'am, I'm new here and you've been doing this to me," she says. "This is too much ma'am, working for you is enough for me ma'am." She said, she is so shy and I think she do not want my suggestion.
"No, you should study," I said. "If you finish your education, you will have a brighter future." I told her because she can’t be one of the out of school youth, she needs a brighter future.
“Ma’am, I will just work for you instead, and this is what I came here for,” she said why made roll my eyes.
"Whatever you say, Mara, I'll ask mum, and if she says yes, you must as well," I told her, clearly handing her an order.
"Anyway, take care here; I'm heading to school now," I told her and went to the car.
Dani drove me to school, I am so excited, excitement is the only feeling I have right now. I really love that school and of course, I really miss Marcus so much.
When I arrived at the school, I run as fast as I can to Marcus. I didn’t meet him at their house he is always out for swimming but now finally I saw him. I immediately hugged him.
“I miss you!” I whispered at him while hugging him, I am happy that I am with him again I miss this brilliant i***t guy. But it doesn’t feel the same. I can feel that he is somewhat tense for some reasons.
“What’s the matter?” I asked him as I let go of him, he just smiled at me.
“You know what,” I wanted to tell him that I was always checking him on their house but eventually I stopped my self because I can see a lot of students looking at us. I feel shy for a while.
“Welcome back Katie,” he said and I just nodded to him.
While walking around the school trying to find our classroom, I just discovered that he is actually the best swimmer when in elementary.
“You seriously won the national?” I asked him in amusement like I didn’t see it coming, he is a shy type of boy before.
“Yea, eventually, anyway congratulations for all your achievements I saw you in some magazines,” he said and I smiled at him, at least he knows my achievements too.
“Be careful around, we have different classes,” he informed me and I just smiled.
Getting too excited. I went to my classroom and make friends with them, they are somewhat uneasy to be with, but yeah I still managed to be friends with them.
I was still glad when school started, but I didn't see Marcus much because he was always in the gym for his practice. We won't be able to hang out. Fortunately, two of my classmates were present to assist me.
"Katie, I saw you in a magazine, and you look stunning," a classmate said, and I just smiled back.
Hanna admired me as well. "Yeah, I admired her beauty, plus you are very sweet Katie," she said.
"Thanks for the complement, Hannah; I didn't realize you actually saw me in those mags," I said, amused by their admission.
"Well, my aunt works there, so that's why," she explained, "and my mum adores you; she's the make-up artist there, but not your make-up artist."
“Really? It would be fantastic if I could meet her as soon as possible."
"You should," Patty says, and I grin back, thinking how nice it would be if they could meet my mother as well.
Patty and Hanna and I had some more wacky chit-chat. We have almost the same attitudes that are why we became friends right away. We are in the middle of a crazy conversation when Patty’s stomach sounded. We laughed and then Hanna insisted for us to go to the canteen.
Hanna said, "Guys, let's go grab our snacks Patty is actually starving," and we all went to the canteen to get our snacks.
We are talking about different things while we walk, and it's wonderful because we share the same vibes; we're both talkative, we jive, and it's so much fun to be with them; they're noisy but cool buddies. After having our snacks we headed to the gym for physical education after our snacks.
We were asked to wear our Physical education desired uniform so we headed first to the comfort room. I am always with my friends Patty and Hanna, they are so fun to be with.
One day I told them to meet my mom and they agreed with me, they are even excited to meet her, it is so cute of them. They are even excited to meet her, which is really sweet of them.
"Hello mum," I say as I kiss her on the cheek. She’s home today and she is wearing her glasses, seems like she is reading a case again. Her usual routine.
"Mom, here is Patty and Hanna, two of my classmates, they were actually my friends in school," I explained, and she smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Patty and Hanna; in any case, how about a snack?" When Mom asked them, they were really shy.
“Guys it’s okay, mom is kind,” I told them while laughing. Mom on the other hand makes them feel at home which is very great. From that time we hang out at our house if there are no classes, we book a grab or I call Dani to pick us up. We love each other’s company that we became so natural with each other.
Hanging out together and going to the mall has been our usual Saturday hangout it is good then that their parents aren’t strict, I can’t believe I can have friends like them. Picnic dates have been so natural to us, we often go to the amusement parks too, while reminiscing our childhood, I just remember when Marcus was the only friend that I have, we usually do this when we were kids but now he is somewhat busy at school which gives us little time to hangout.
It is Friday today and Hanna as part of the music club they had practiced, Patty as part of the art club is busy with their meeting, we just finished practicing the dance to be performed on the other week so I am now here walking alone in the hallway.
“Marcus!’ I called him when I saw him in the hallway and he waved his hand at me and gave me a gesture to wait for him.
That’s what I did I waited for him in the hallway and it took him too long, but I still waited. I know how busy he is in this school so I need to be considerate. In the midst of waiting, I distracted myself with the flowers planted beside the hallway, they were to cute and pretty. When I got bored appreciating the beauty of the plants I was about to seat on the chair when I saw him walking out from the room, he smiled and waved his hands at me, I smiled back.
“Thank you for waiting,” he said and walk beside me.
We were silent while walking so I got bored, I am trying to think what topic should I be opening but I cannot think of any, I just want to walk not talk. It is somewhat awkward and I can feel his stares and looks from time to time, seems like he wanted to start a conversation but he does not know how to start. I want a bright idea and when it comes it twinkled my eyes.
“We should try the unli wings stall out there, I heard it is good,” I told him excitedly and he nodded.
“You know what I did not know that you are this busy in school, I barely see you,” I informed him and he smiled before answering, well I am a little bit shy when I told him that. I thought that I did not became considerate for a moment.
“Well, sorry for that it happened that your best friend is a swimmer and a student council officer then a contestant,” He said as if boasting himself, I hit on his arms then and he just laughs at me. We were playing and laughing while we were waiting for the greenlight.
“You are boastful!” I said and he just laughs.
“What I am just flexing my achievements,” he said and it made me smile.
“Well, you should help, me on my assignments this weekend,” I ordered him and he think of it for a while.
“Hm, Sunday, I have practice during Saturday,” he said and I just nodded well Saturday is hangout day with Patty and Hanna.
“Aren’t you tired?” I asked him but his answer had been delayed for a while because it is the green light already when we reached the other side of the road I asked him again.
“You never been tired of modeling right?” he asked me back and I nodded.
“Yes, because I love to do that,” I informed him.
“The answer is the same,” he said and I smiled at him. Wow, so he loves what he do now, he is mr. popular too at school.
“I am so proud of you!” I told him and gave him a thumbs up.
“I am proud of you too!” He said and went inside the unli wings stall, he ordered for us and we waited for our food. When we were in the middle of eating he told me something.
“Don’t let yourself be used by others,” he said.
“Huh?” I asked him getting confused.
“Choose your friends wisely.”
