Matthias led the way up the mountain, his breath hitching in a chest that felt like it was filled with rusted iron. Behind him, Silas, Thea, and Eden moved like ghosts in the white-out. Their faces were red and raw from forty-eight hours of battling the Austrian winter. They had spent the first day climbing, working their way through the snow covered forest. The second day was spent trying to keep up with a rocky trail that seemed to constantly change with the snow and the wind. Matthias had tried to turn them back twice. The visibility was almost nonexistent, and even though he had his own grudge to pick with the beast, he valued his life and the safety of goose who had trusted him to find their friend.
