What is wrong with me?

1019 Words
My alarm goes off at 5 a.m.; I roll over to grab my phone and turn off the alarm. I have to get ready and then get Matthew up for school. As I move to sit up, I grab my head instantly as it begins to hurt. I grab my things and stumble to the bathroom. I looked in the medicine cabinet for some aspirin. My head feels like it's splitting in two. I managed to get in the shower and get my clothes on. I woke up Matthew and headed downstairs to make breakfast. "Damn, my head won't stop hurting," I say as I grip the counter to keep standing. I usually make pancakes or omelets, but I'm in too much pain to do anything. I pour Matthew a bowl of cereal and make myself a cup of lavender tea to help calm me down. I cleaned up as best as I could and got Matthew to his bus stop on time. I thought my headache was going away, but as I walked into school, my head started to get worse again. What's wrong with me? Like I need something else to go wrong in my life. I make my way to my locker, but then I'm hit with emotions of dread, depression, jealousy, rage, and others I don't think I could name. "What the hell is your problem loser?" Of course, it's the last person I want to hear from other than Katrina Applegate. If I could call this girl anything other than a b***h, I would. She was the Beyonce in our school, the queen bee. To make it even worse, her family owned half the town. They were also part of the school board. So that meant she literally could do whatever the f**k she wanted, Katrina was 5'6" with hazel eyes and light brown hair, with a small waist, wide hips and butt and boobs for days. "Not today, Katrina, I don't have time for your s**t today," I said through my clenched teeth. 'Who the f**k do you think you're talking to", Katrina starts to move towards me with a balled-up fist. Then from my left, I hear Capri hear "b***h, if you want to keep that pretty face of yours, I'd advise you to step the f**k back" as she glares at Katrina. Then, to make matters worse, there is already a crowd forming around us. ' It's OK you won't always be around to save a hoe". Katrina and her crew laugh and walk away. I don't know why but Katrina never bothers me when Capri is around. "hey Maska Hey, Are you okay? What's wrong?" as she rubs my back. I... I....don't... Then my whole world goes black. When I woke up, I saw lights and a white curtain. It felt like I had been hit by a truck. I tried to move to get up, but I did it so fast I almost fell over. "Hey easy there,, Let's get you back on the cot for a second", the school nurse said to me with a smile. "Do you remember where you are?" "Um....yes school" "OK. good, that's good to hear. Here, take a few sips of water and slowly." I do as she says, taking a few sips at a time. I hand the nurse back the cup and she throws it away and turns back to me with a smile. "Alright, why don't we get you on your feet and see if you can walk?" She comes forward to help me up and reminds me to go slowly so that I don't fall again. Thank you Miss." "No problem, this is what I'm here for" she replied with a bigger smile. I wonder if her face ever hurts from doing that all day. "So I had the office call your foster parents and they are not able to come to pick you up OK. I was told that if you wanted to go home, OK seeing as you don't live very far." I sighed, knowing no one cared enough to even come get me. "It's OK, I think I'll just go home for the day." "Thank you for your help" as I gathered my things to head out the door. The nurse stood up to hand me my dismissal paper. "Honey, are you sure you are OK with walking?" she said with a worried look on her face. "Yes, Ma'am, I will be fine" as I took the paper from her hand. I headed out the school doors to make my way home. I looked for my phone which was in my bookbag. Capri must have turned off my phone to save the battery. I pulled it out and turned it on, and instantly my phone began to go off with over 50 notifications. I click on the link and instantly I'm mortified by what I'm seeing. It's a video of the argument I had with Katrina and me passing out. This day was getting worse by the minute. My phone begins to ring and it's Capri. "Hello," I said with a brokenness in my voice, trying so hard to hold back the tears that were burning to come out. "Maya, are you okay? I went to the nurse's office but you were gone when I got there. " I'm...I'm... I'm sorry Capri, I just can't talk right now". I quickly hung up the phone and rushed home. I cried all the way home. I was devastated and embarrassed. I was always the weird one, the kid without parents. No matter what school I was in, it was always the same. I was singled out or made fun of, and honestly, I was tired of it. I'm kind and always willing to help, despite how others treat me. I was open to the idea of love, how it felt to be loved, and willing to give all the love I had in return. Let's face it, though I'd be living in a fantasy, if I thought anyone would treat me like a person, let alone love me.
