Can It Be Her

Ruth: POV

I walked out of the room and I instantly called Clay. "Clay, I need you to come home immediately," I said in a whisper. "My love, what's wrong!" he says with worry. "I can't say over the phone, meet me in the safe room when you come home".

"I'm on my way, let me finish this debriefing". He says goodbye and hangs up

She looks just like her mother and father, but nothing indicates who she is. With no scent to make sure of her origins. If she was almost 18 she should have gotten her wolf by now. None of this seems right we looked everywhere for her before we settled here. Either she is the lost princess or it's a trick or a spell, someone trying to get information.

"Mom, are you OK?" Capri says, a little worried.

I jumped startled a bit from being so deep in thought at the situation at hand.

"Oh I'm sorry, sweety, I was lost in thought. Now get to bed because I'm waking you up early."

Capri sighs. "Oh about that mom, can we leave around 10am and give Maya a little rest? I just feel like she may need it."

"Of course, I don't see why not." as I grabbed her in for a hug.

My sweet girl has really grown into a beautiful young lady. I pray the moon goddess blesses her with a wonderful mate.

"I almost forgot, tomorrow is Maya's birthday and I want to get her something special," she says with a smile.

"Her Birthday?...… Of course, I don't see why not."

"Uh, sweety how old will she be?"

"Oh she'll be 18, Goodnight Mom love you." As she walked to her room.

She'll be 18. Could it really be her? The day she was born, there was an eclipsed moon. Those born under one are said to be more powerful than any wolf, a ruler in their own right, but I never got to see her. That's when all hell broke loose and me being pregnant with Capri, I had to go into hiding.

I walked into my bedroom and went through the closet. I open a hidden panel and I place my eye in front of the screen and it scans "Beta Ruth Andrews". The computer says to me

The closet door opened and I entered the safe room. It was also my laboratory and medical bay, which is connected to the house so that me and Clay could have easy access. Under the house are five floors with training grounds for the guards and living courts, a canteen and entertainment. Our weapons and all the state-of-the-art tech and some that we have developed over the years. I was more than just a doctor.

I was a black goddess and a genius and, of course, the female Beta of the Royal Louts Pack.

All was lost 18 years ago, but me and Clay have managed to keep the pack together. Some did move on and found new packs. I understand that losing one's home is hard. It's better sometimes to start over.

The memories of all that was taken that night still haunt my dreams. I decided to finish some of my work to distract my mind from all that happened today. "Catalina, could you sense anything from Maya when she got here?" My wolf sometimes can pick up on things that I may have missed. That was our talent. My family was blessed by the moon goddess to heal our kind. "I tried to reach into her mind a bit but was instantly blocked, like a brick wall but way more powerful." while she stretches out and shakes her fur.

"That's very odd. Why would her mind be blocked if she was human? All of this is not making any sense."

Catalina yawned. "Well, I would keep an eye on her to make sure she is not an informant."

"Let's pick this up tomorrow Ruth, this boss b***h is tired", we laughed and she curls up in the back of my mind and falls back to sleep.

I go back to work on hand when I hear the doors open from our safe room and see Clay walking in from the security TV.

"Ruth! Ruth my love"

" Yes, babe. I'm back here." and I got up to greet my mate.

I hugged him and inhaled his scent. He smelled of lavender and sandalwood.

"Hey my love, what's wrong" as he rubs my back and the sparks of our bond soothe my nerves.

I took a deep breath. " It's Capri's friend Maya, the one I texted you about."

"Yes, I remember. Why is she OK?"

"How about I just show you and then tell me what you think". I go over to the computer and pull up the security footage from the entry way. I pull up her photo and instantly I hear Clay gasp in disbelief.

"She looks like her parents and her eyes. I think I need a drink, do you think this could be her after all these years" as he makes his way to the bar and pours himself a double shot.

I walk over and grab the bottle and pour myself one.

"I asked Catalina if she could sense anything and she said it was like hitting a brick wall, but a powerful one."

Clay starts to rub his head and then pours another shot. "Well, either way she is here now, the best thing is to do is keep her here and watch her. If she is the princess, then there would be no better place than here to protect her. If anyone were to find out, it would be chaos" as he took another shot.

"Yes, I guess your right. The other thing that bothers me is if she was the princess, where is her wolf and why can't we smell her, Or what if she is after us or Capri." As worry starts to creep in, Clay grabs me and pulls me into his embrace.

" Well, my love, I guess we will have to wait and see until then. Let's do what we can to help the girl, as if nothing is wrong. If she is an informant, what better way than to keep her close?

"Oh Clay, if it is her, things are going to get a lot worse than better"

"I know my love but we knew one day this day would come. Though this time we are ready and prepared to handle it, as long as we are together we will be OK. Now let's get some rest. We have a long day tomorrow."
