~Selene's POV~ She finds Dax at the building entrance the way she always finds him in the evenings, standing with his arms loosely crossed, watching the street with the particular stillness of someone who has made watching into a discipline rather than a chore. The twins are asleep upstairs with Miriam. The night air carries the first real edge of the coming season, cool enough that Selene pulls her cardigan closer as she steps outside, though she does not go far, just to the small stretch of sidewalk where Dax keeps his post. She has been working up to this for the better part of a week. "Can I ask you something," she says, "and you'll actually answer me honestly." Dax glances at her, then back at the street. "I always answer you honestly." "This is different. This is about Caden."
