He uses the phrase schedule-consistent entry pattern, which is more precise and considerably more damaging, because it means the same thing without the imprecision of metaphor. The three Ironmere wolves who crossed the eastern boundary four nights ago did not guess at the rotation gap. They knew it. The entry and exit times, cross-referenced against Cresthaven's logged patrol records for the preceding six weeks, show a pattern of four prior proximity events, wolves near the boundary line but not crossing, each one occurring during the same category of gap. Not the same gap. The same category.
They have been testing the schedule's consistency for six weeks before the crossing.
