~Selene's POV~
She waits until day seventeen.
Not because seventeen is significant. Because on the morning of day seventeen she wakes before Lior, which is unusual enough to constitute information, and she lies in the dark for twenty-three minutes with the particular quality of wakefulness that is not insomnia but arrival, the sense of having been brought to the surface of something that has been completing itself beneath. She has been assembling this for sixteen days. The assembly is done.
She gets up and tells Miriam at breakfast that she will need the afternoon.
Miriam looks at her over the twins and says nothing, which is the specific nothing that contains: I understand what you are doing and I will make it possible.
She calls Caden at half past ten.
She has not called him before
