Chapter 5

1000 Words
Atlas checked his appearance one final time in the hotel mirror. The dark tailored suit fit perfectly across his shoulders, complemented by a midnight blue tie that brought out the artificial blue eyes of his James Reed persona. He'd arrived at the mansion early, familiarizing himself with the layout, memorizing exit routes, and observing staff patterns. It was all an expected behavior by the new head of security. Now, as eight o'clock approached, he made his way to Hannah's private suite, located in the mansion's east wing. His footsteps echoed on the floor as he slowly made his way to his destination. Before his knuckles could even touch the door, it swung open. Hannah stood there, hair loose around her shoulders, wearing a silk dress that clung to her curves. The scent of expensive perfume drifted toward him. "Mr. Reed. Right on time." Her eyes swept over him appreciatively. "Please, come in." Atlas noted how she'd clearly been waiting by the door. It was strange of her. The suite was immaculate, it was all sleek modern furniture and tasteful artwork. "Have a seat." Hannah gestured to a plush sofa. "Make yourself comfortable." Atlas paused, thinking back to the morning interview. No chair then, when he was merely an applicant. A luxurious sofa now, when she wanted something from him. The change in treatment was laughably transparent. "Would you like some wine? It's a rare vintage. Aaron keeps it for special occasions." Hannah moved toward a crystal decanter. "Thank you, that would be nice," Atlas replied, settling onto the sofa. He watched her pour two glasses, noting how her hands trembled slightly. She handed him a glass, deliberately brushing her fingers against his. "To new beginnings." Her voice dropped lower as she sat beside him, closer than professional boundaries would dictate. "To new beginnings," Atlas echoed, taking a careful sip. He wouldn't put it past her to drug him. "So, Mr. Reed… James… tell me about yourself." Hannah turned toward him, one leg tucked beneath her. "How does someone with your... capabilities end up in security work?" Atlas leaned back, creating an image of relaxed confidence. "I've always had good instincts about people. I can read them, sense when something's wrong. It seemed natural to put those skills to use." "And how do you stay in such..." her eyes drifted across his body, "exceptional condition? It must require dedication." "Discipline is key in everything I do." Atlas met her gaze directly. "I never start something I don't intend to finish." Hannah's breath caught. She took a long sip of wine. "The security questions I mentioned..." "Yes?" Atlas prompted when she trailed off. She set her glass down, leaning closer. "I need to know how you would protect me, specifically. In various situations." "Such as?" "For instance..." Hannah traced a finger along the rim of her glass. "If someone were to threaten me, here, in my own bedroom." Atlas smiled slowly. The game was obvious now. Aaron had always been obsessed with power, with deals and acquisitions. He'd never changed, still neglecting what was in front of him while chasing the next conquest. And Hannah, who thrived on attention, was looking elsewhere to find it. "First," Atlas said, voice dropping to a near whisper, "I'd identify all possible entry points." He stood, moving to the windows, drawing the curtains with deliberate slowness. "Control the environment." Hannah watched him, entranced. "Then I'd ensure we couldn't be interrupted." He locked the door with a decisive click. "What next?" Hannah's voice had grown husky. Atlas approached her slowly. "I'd assess the immediate area for weapons or advantages." He picked up a letter opener from the coffee table, testing its weight before setting it down. "Always be aware of what's around you." "And if someone got too close?" Hannah stood, stepping directly into his space. Atlas looked down at her, his eyes holding hers captive. "Distance can be both your greatest defence and your most powerful weapon. Sometimes you want to maintain it." He stepped back. "Other times..." He moved forward suddenly, his hand catching her wrist in a grip that was firm but not painful. "You close it." Hannah's pupils dilated, her breathing quickened. "Show me more. How would you handle a physical threat?" "The most effective defense isn't always the most violent." Atlas released her wrist, his fingers trailing up her arm. "Sometimes it's about controlling the threat's focus, redirecting their attention." "Is that what you're doing to me right now? Redirecting my attention?" Hannah challenged, her eyes bright with desire. "Is it working?" Atlas smiled, letting an edge of danger show through his carefully constructed mask. "God, yes." Hannah pushed against his chest suddenly, backing him toward the bed. "I need to know I'm safe with you, James. That you can handle... anything." Atlas allowed himself to fall back onto the mattress, watching as Hannah frantically stripped down to her lace underwear. "You're not like the others," she breathed, crawling over him. "There's something about you... something dangerous." She began kissing his neck, her hands fumbling with his tie. In one swift motion, Atlas flipped their positions, his hand wrapping around her throat with calculated pressure which was enough to excite, not to harm. "Is this what you want?" he asked, his voice a dark whisper. "Someone who knows exactly how to ruin you?" Hannah's eyes fluttered closed, her body arching toward him. "Yes. Ruin me. Aaron never would. He's too busy with his precious company." Atlas smiled down at her. "Oh, I will." His fingers found the pressure point on her neck, applying precise pressure. Hannah's eyes widened in confusion before rolling back as she lost consciousness, her body going limp beneath him. Atlas stood, straightening his tie as he looked down at her unconscious form. He pulled out his phone, recording a slow pan of Hannah in her underwear, passed out on the bed. "I promised I'd ruin you all," he whispered to the camera. "And I always keep my promises."
