Chapter 5

We pulled up to a long gravel driveway with a very high enforced gate and trees so thick you couldn’t see through them very far. They lived in the middle of the forest, something I am not used to.      Ren unlocked the gate and continued driving, after a few minutes the trees started to make a clearing. What I saw literally had me shocked. Normally with high statused wolves you would expect to see some sort of large house the resembled a castle but is that what this is, no. Make that a big f**k no. It was indeed the polar opposite. The house itself was definitely big but needed a lot of work and the rest of the property had various old barn building that looked like it would just be better if they were torn down and rebuilt.     “Home sweet home.” Really ‘home sweet home’ is not what I was thinking. “I know it’s not what you were expecting but it’s what is needed and you will learn to love it.”     I refuse to be best friends with a chicken.     Ren parked the truck up by the house, “Let’s get you settled into the house before the dumbasses show up.” Ren grabs my bags out from the bed of the truck as I take a good look at the outside of the house. The porch was big but definitely needed to be restored, the bricks looked cracked and that they started to chip, everything just looked like it hadn't been cleaned or maintained at all. Otherwise it was a massive three story old farm house that didn’t seem out of the ordinary in this area.     The front door squealed when it opened and didn’t shut very quietly either. The inside of the house was clean and neat and everything was simple. The kitchen was all orange oak from the cabinets to the floors to even the table and chairs. Not a fan. The living room was just a couch and some mismatched chairs with a stone fireplace and another oak coffee table. The stairs creaked as you walked up them giving away the age of the house. They turned corners for every floor. When we reached the top floor it was a small landing strip with double doors that were also basic and that ugly orange oak.      Ren opened the door for me and let me go in first. “You will be staying with me. I won’t allow anything else.”     The room was spacious and only had the basics. The walls were wood but instead of the ugly orange it was as if he cut down some trees and put the on the walls to make it feel more like the outdoors.      “We have our own bathroom and you may have half of everything. I just ask that you don’t hang anything on the walls without my permission, anything stupidly girly is an automatic no.” Ren sets my bags on the floor and closes the door, “I hope that you like it.”     I just walk around the room looking at all the details. There are no pictures or anything personal. Heh that’ll change. “After I get my things unpacked I’m going to call my parents and let them know that the rest of my belongings need to be sent.”     “But that can wait for awhile,” Ren comes closer to me, slowly like he wants me to watch every move he makes. “I have only just met you and I want to know everything that makes you my mate.”     Feeling a bit out of place with the way he said that and the way he’s looking at me, a change in the mood is needed. “Alright so we play twenty questions. I’ll go first.”     “Why do you go first?” His eyes light up with a hint of intrigment.      “Because ladies should always go first.” I plop down on the bed and cross my arms.     “I disagree. Females should come first when it comes to eating, basic care, and protection. The male should be first to walk into a room to make sure the safety of the female.” His smug face laid on the bed next to me acting like he wins this debate.     “You let me in the room first so you destroyed your own statement.”     “On the contrary, I already checked to make sure it was safe for you. I would never put you in harms way.” His eyes called mine to look at him. I’ve never seen such intense eyes look at me in such a way. We sat there for quite some time before I felt like something was going to happen and I put an end to that.     “Okay so twenty questions,” I quickly looked away from him to stop whatever on its merry way to nopetown. I felt him just sink further into the bed as if he didn’t want me to change the subject. “So what do you do for fun?”     “We work. Everything we do is to stay alive and we can’t risk certain people knowing that we live around this area. So we minimize the contact we have to the outside world and do things ourselves, which explains the livestock and being in the middle of the woods.”     “So basically you’re lame and boring, got it.” I teased.     An arm found itself around my waist and pulled me down on the bed. “Oh I am not lame and boring, all I need is a couple of seconds and you’ll see that.” A smirking face is staring down at me.     “Ha bet.”     “Alright what do you want to bet?” his face is getting closer.      “I’ll give you the rest of the day to prove to me that you are not lame and boring.”     “And what do I get when I win?”      “Don’t act like you already won. What is it that you want?”     “Well at the end of the day I want you marked.” His eyes and dark and serious. There is no longer the playful vibe going on and it started to seem like I’m betting my life to end today.     “Alrighty then.” I pulled away not really agreeing but not backing down from the challenge either.    “Anyways it’s your turn.”     “Why do you think you were destined to be my mate?”     “You basically just asked me to list a bunch of my best qualities. If you insist, I am amazing and I will knock you on your butt at any point in time. I also have a great gift that you will greatly appreciate.” I sit up proud.     “Oh really now? Well let’s see this great gift of yours.”      I stand up and walk over to one of my bags and open it and take out a thick binder. “I couldn’t keep everything because the world would run out of space. So I took pictures of everything and put them in here as memories.” I had him the binder that holds all of my predictions, each turned out to be true.     Ren starts flipping through the pictures one by one studying them individually. “You painted all of these?”     “Yes. They are all painted or drawn before that event shown even happened. Funny thing is if you ask me to draw anything I wanted I couldn’t do it.” I nervously laughed.     “So you’re telling me that you can predict the future?” His eyes snap to mine and I couldn’t even dare to look away.     “Not everything but important things yes.” I stand frozen as he calmly stands and walks towards me until he’s close. The type of close that if it had been anyone else they would back up real quick but I can’t find myself to push him away, let alone to even back up.     “You were right. A great gift that I will greatly appreciate.” He wraps his arms around my waist and draws me in closer. “But for now we keep it to ourselves.”     He’s gonna kiss me. He wants to kiss me. Help. Do I even want to kiss him yet? Yes? Kinda? No not yet.     “Alright, my turn,” I pulled away from him abruptly, stopping something that I’m not ready to happen just yet. I’m not sure if I’m afraid of the feelings that it brings or I’m afraid that once it starts I won’t be able to stop it. “So what time does dinner start?”     “Mate is hungry already? It’s only 3 p.m.” His voice is teasing and his eyebrows make him look curious. It’s like he doesn’t understand that I’m used to a different time zone then him.     “Yeah well my stomach says that it’s lunch time and it demands to be filled.”     “I will happily be the one that fills that emptiness,” he stalks closer. His eyes are dangerous and are filled with a different type of hunger. He makes me nervous and I don’t like it.     “Honey I’m home!” The front door screamed open ending with it slamming into the wall and laughing closed and Hunter announcing his entrance. Ren rolled his eyes clearly not ready for them to be back yet.     Let the chaos begin.
