Dufe crouched down beside Kara and called, "Mrs. Asha, are you at home?" But no one responded.
"It's no use going to the neighbors," Kara said. "One is away on holiday, and the other is working."
A further exploration of the house showed the curtains half-drawn across an upstairs bedroom window, as if someone might be lying down there, or… Kara's mind was filled with that awful fear of a patient overdosing. She could almost see Mrs. Asha up there, and the empty bottle beside her bed.
Peering through the kitchen window, she could see no sign of any preparation for Mr. Asha's evening meal, but no sign of anything untoward either. No, if there was any serious problem, it would be upstairs.
