Gu Feibai woke up and, upon opening his eyes, immediately saw the small figure curled up on the sofa opposite him—a woman.
Out of a strong survival instinct, Qiu Xueyi had placed the only blanket in the room over Gu Feibai.
A small, unconscious smile tugged at the corners of Gu Feibai's lips. He stood up, walked over to her, and gently draped the blanket over her instead.
When she was quiet, her expression wasn't as bold and exaggerated. In fact, she looked a little cute and well-behaved.
Gu Feibai crouched in front of the sofa, carefully examining her delicate face.
He knew that he had fallen asleep to the sound of Qiu Xueyi's violin playing, and a strange feeling stirred within him.
This woman always managed to surprise him.
He had sought out world-class violin masters before—how had he missed her?
Right now, she was like an irresistible flower in full bloom. But was she a poisonous one?
The feeling of being stared at in one's sleep is never pleasant.
Qiu Xueyi was a light sleeper, and she had woken up the moment Gu Feibai covered her with the blanket.
But she could feel the tenderness in his actions, and she knew that if she woke now, the atmosphere would grow ambiguously intimate.
So she pretended to stay asleep, though she didn't expect Gu Feibai to be such a creep, staring at her.
She didn't need to open her eyes to imagine his lustful gaze.
Gu Feibai, however, wasn't being lustful. After watching her closely for a while, he noticed her eyelashes trembling.
With a playful idea in mind, he decided to see how long she could keep up the act.
The two silently confronted each other for a moment, each with their own thoughts.
In the end, it was Qiu Xueyi who surrendered. Who could stand being stared at by a weirdo?
She exaggerated a big stretch as she woke up and “accidentally” swung a fist toward Gu Feibai's face.
Luckily, Gu Feibai reacted quickly, easily catching her small hand in his larger one. He raised an eyebrow and looked at her.
The warmth of his palm caused a subtle blush to rise in Qiu Xueyi's ears, though she hid it well.
She hurriedly pulled her hand back, greeting him nonchalantly, "Ah, good morning, Mr. Gu."
"Mm, let's go."
Gu Feibai didn't mention her pretending to be asleep.
Outside the door, Shen Mian had been pacing back and forth for quite a while.
It was so late—should he knock and remind them of something?
But if he interrupted the CEO's private moment, the CEO might break his legs.
As he hesitated, the door finally opened.
Shen Mian looked up to see Gu Feibai walking out first, his shirt unbuttoned three more than usual.
Qiu Xueyi followed closely behind, biting a hair tie between her teeth as she gathered her messy hair.
Shen Mian's smile froze, and a c***k appeared on his expression.
Thankfully, he hadn't interrupted earlier!
Wait, how had things progressed so quickly? Wasn't the CEO always against office romances?
No, no, this wasn't right! Was Sophie that skilled? It's only been a few days, and she's already won over their cold and aloof CEO?
Shen Mian's face went through several expressions. Gu Feibai knew exactly what he was thinking.
Without hesitation, he smacked Shen Mian on the head. “What are you standing there for?”
“I’m sorry, sir!” Shen Mian immediately apologized, “It's half past ten in the evening, sir. Dinner is ready, and the documents you need to review are on your desk. Would you like to...”
“Let’s eat first.”
Gu Feibai said this while looking at Qiu Xueyi behind him.
“No need, Mr. Gu,” Qiu Xueyi declined firmly. Her son was waiting for her at home.
It was already late, and she knew her son, Qiu Yiyang, had probably eaten dinner alone by now. She wanted to get home quickly to be with him.
“Assistant Su, do you have any urgent matters? I've already finished your work, so you can relax and have dinner with the boss,” Shen Mian said, thinking he was being considerate, almost expecting Qiu Xueyi to thank him.
Internally, Qiu Xueyi rolled her eyes. His tone of “having dinner together” sounded suspiciously like his earlier suggestion of "spending the night together."
“If you want to leave, you can,” Gu Feibai interrupted, cutting off the exchange of glances between Qiu Xueyi and Shen Mian. For some reason, his mood had grown colder.
He didn’t want a woman trying to seduce him hanging around too closely.
Shen Mian felt a jolt of anxiety—had he messed things up?
Back in the CEO's office, Qiu Xueyi grabbed her bag, ready to leave. “Goodnight, Mr. Gu. Assistant Shen, see you tomorrow.”
The cold and distant CEO was already absorbed in his documents, responding dismissively, “Mm.”
Shen Mian stood on the side, filled with regret and sadness as he watched Qiu Xueyi leave.
So, he had misjudged everything after all!
Seeing Shen Mian's remorseful expression, Qiu Xueyi couldn’t help but chuckle. He had definitely shot himself in the foot.
After the office door closed, Gu Feibai ordered Shen Mian, “Look into Sophie's background.”
“Huh?” Shen Mian was confused. “Didn’t we already investigate?”
Gu Feibai waved the few pages of paper in his hand. “A woman who grew up abroad, and we only know her school—nothing else.”
Her record was too clean, which meant something was off.
Understanding dawned on Shen Mian. “Got it. I'll have someone dig deeper.”
Who had erased her background so thoroughly that even the Gu Group couldn't trace it?
......
Later that night, Qiu Xueyi returned home, dragging her tired body through the door. A light had been left on for her in the entryway, and her son, Qiu Yiyang, was already asleep in his room.
