11 | Thriller JESSICA ran her hand through her hair as she cleaned up the broken pieces of glass off her floor. She connected the glass with her broken heart, how dare he call her a monster? She wasn't playing judge, jury, and executioner every day. She left that to the humans, left them to make their own decisions. The crime fighter looked at the photo of her father with a deep sigh. If only she hadn't fallen out of love with Oliver, she could have been happy. She could have had a family. The Brit could have never been a family man, she knew that for a fact. Oliver was too comfortable with partying and so was Jessica. In her early twenties, it was all she wanted to do. But as she grew older, she was ready to get married and settle down. Oliver wasn't and he knew it. He broke it off with her because she wanted something he wasn't ready to give her. Jessia knew, deep down, there was still a part of her that was still in love with Oliver. She just refused to admit it. The ringing of her cell phone brought her out of her heartbroken state. She grabbed it, ready to put on her fake happy persona. "Hello?" She smiled, maybe if she kept that smile, she would trick herself into believing she was fine. "I've been kidn*pped!" Lois whispered over the phone. "What!" "I was able to steal my phone back but I don't have much time. Grab your brother and find me!" Lois instructed frantically. "Let go of me!" "Lois?" Jessica called out. "Lois!" In a blink of an eye, Jessica zoomed over to her suit and sped out of her apartment to find her brother. Clark was walking towards his own apartment when he saw his sister standing in the middle of the living room panicked. "Is everything okay?" He asked. "I felt sadness." "They have Lois." When those words left Jessica's mouth, Clark felt his whole world stop. "Who has Lois?" He asked darkly. "She wasn't able to tell me, but," she quickly turned on the tv. "Something about LexCorp is giving me bad vibes." As clear as day, CNN was broadcasting giant bolts of lightning hitting the Kryptonian spaceship the government banned her, or Clark, from using while it was being studied. Clark ripped open his shirt to reveal the S underneath and he was one like a leaf in the wind. Jessica followed after him, trying to stay on his trail but was no match for her fast brother. When she made it to LexCorp, she saw that Clark had, indeed, made it in time to save Lois from a doomed fate. She was relieved to see Clark holding Lois in a tight hug. "What happened!" Jessica asked, looking at the two. "Lex threw me off the building," Lois wheezed, still regaining her breath. "he's gone insane." She explained, her hands placed on either arm of Jessica. "Stay here." Jessica ordered. "I'm coming with you." Clark spoke, ready to fly up. Jessica grabbed his arm with a stern look in her eyes. "You are in no state of mind to face him. I'm more level-headed at the moment." "But he almost killed Lois!" "My point exactly." Jessica said. Clark gave a deep sigh before kissing his sister's forehead. "Go do your thing." Jessica instantly flew up and landed onto the helipad. She slowly looked up to see Lex sitting on the floor with a wide, Jokeresque, smile on his face. "Oh! And the lady of the hour has arrived!" Lex smiled, clapping his hands, a white bandage around his left hand. "I'm not in the greatest mood tonight Lex," She growled. "why are you doing this?" Jess asked with her hands clenched. "Oh, I just want some action for once." He smiled twistedly. "Boy, do we have problems up here! The problem of evil in the world. The problem of absolute virtue." Jessica took a step closer. "I'll take you in without breaking you. Which is more than you deserve." Lex ignored her. "The problem of you on top of everything else. You above all." He explained. "Ah. 'Cause that's what God is." He shrugged with the same crazed look in his eyes. "Horus. Apollo. Jehovah. Kalura-El. Jessica Alieen Kent." Jessica widened her eyes at the use of her real name. How would he know that? "See, what we call God depends upon our tribe, Jay Jay. Because God is tribal, God takes sides." Lex pointed up to the sky. "No man in the sky intervened when I was a boy to deliver me from Daddy's fist and abominations! Mm mm." Lex balled his wrapped hand into a tight fist, wincing at the pain. He sucked in a deep breath and looked back at Jessica. "I've figured it out way back, if God is all-powerful, he cannot be all good. And if he's all good then he cannot be all-powerful. And neither of you can be." The frown he held kept drooping down the more he spoke. "They need to see the fraud you are. With their eyes. The blood," He removed the white bandage from his hand to reveal a long deep cut with purple around the broken skin. "on your hands." Jessica watched his monologue with wide eyes. "What have you done?" She asked, her heart racing. "And, tonight, they will." Lex smiled. "Yes. Because you, my friend, have a date! Across the bay. Ripe fruit, his hate. two years growing. To push him over actually, all it took was little red notes, big bang, you let your family die! And now, you will fly to him, and you will battle him, to the death." He clapped his hands together, jerking them up to the sky, imagining there were giant words on a poster in front of him. "Black and Blue, fight night! The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world. Goddess vs man. Day vs night. Daughter of Krypton vs Bat of Gotham. Lover vs. Lover." The Super twin clenched her jaw tightly, grinding her teeth to keep from snapping every bone in the little psycho's body. If she played her cards right, she could grab him and take him to the nearest police station. "You think I'll fight him for you?" "Yes, I do. I think you'll fight, fight, fight for that special lady in your life." Lex spoke smugly. "She's safe on the ground." Jessica shrugged. "How about you?" "Close, but I'm not talking about Lois. That's your brother's, special little lady." He reached into his pocket. " No, every girl's special lady is her mother, her best friend in the whole world!" "What..." Jessica whispered in fear, her whole world stops. Lex knew her mother would be the one thing to get her to do whatever he wanted. Her mother is the only happiness she gets, the only woman who would love her no matter her flaw. "Huh! Martha, Martha, Martha." Lex repeated while circling around Jessica's frozen state. "The mother of a flying demon must be a witch." He threw a picture down in front of Jessica like it was food. "The punishment for witches, what is that?" He asked with a finger to his chin. "That's right, death by fire." Lex's smug smile turned into an evil frown, throwing picture after picture of her mother gagged and crying with the words WITCH written on her forehead. Jessica fell to her knees, a scared little girl all over again. Then, a wave of newfound anger exploded within her, everything that has happened to her that night rushing at her like a bat out of hell. Her eyes lit up bright red, ready to torch Lex where he stood. "WHERE IS SHE?" She screeched, scaring Lex at how fast her anger took over. "I don't know!" He gasped, quickly regaining the high ground. "I wouldn't let them tell me!" Jessica lunged forward with her speed, hands nearing to grab him by his throat. "If you kill me, Martha dies!" He shouted with his hands outstretched to stop her. Jessica came to an immediate stop, her fingers jammed in a claw position. "If you ask your super brother for help, Martha dies as well." Lex snapped his fingers. "And if you fly away, Martha also dies." He smiled nervously, remembering that detail as well. "But if you kill the Bat... Martha lives." Jessica's erotic breathing turned into one of deep breathes, one you use when you try to control the inevitable tsunami of sobs. She fell to her knees, hands slapped on her face. What could she do? There was no one there to help her in the situation but herself. She couldn't ask Clark to help her because that was against the rules Lex set upon her. Bruce was the one she had to fight, her only job now was to convince the bat to help her save her mother's life. She had a bad feeling about this, someone was going to die tonight and she would be damned if it would be her mother who dies because of her faults. Lex stroked his fingers through Jessica's long black hair. "There we go." He cooed. "There we go." He bends down to her ear, savoring every moment of having the most powerful woman bend to his will. "And now Goddess bends to my will." He whispered, kissing her temple like he was blessing her with his spiteful love. Jessica turned her hateful watery gaze to Lex. "Now the cameras are waiting at your ship. For the world to see the holes in the holy!" He walked over to the white oval-shaped kitchen timer sitting all by its lonesome. "Yes, the all mighty comes clean about how dirty she is when it counts." He stopped the turning of the dial. "Not that you haven't done that yet." He continued on. "To save Martha, bring me the head of the Bat." When the dial reached its limited amount of turns, Lex gasped. "Mother of God, would you look at the time." A helicopter from above began to descend its way onto the helipad. The wind tousling Jessica's red cape in every direction. Lex began to walk towards it, knowing he was untouchable. "When you came here, you had an hour!" He shouted over the wind. He turned around to face the distraught God still on her knees. "Now," Lex showed her the timer with a surprised look on his face. "it's less." Jessica watched Lex disappear into the air with the copter and finally stood to her feet. She wasn't going to let anyone die tonight, even if she was going to die. The alien clenched her fists in frustration. What the hell was she going to do? "Jessica..." Jessica looked over her shoulder. "Speak of the devil." She mumbled, turning around to see her dad standing there in all his foggy glory. Jonathan gave her a look of sympathy, always there for her when she absolutely needed it. "Oh Jess," He sighed. "This is what your mother and I feared. Why we wanted to shield you away from the world when you and your brother were growing up." Jonathan placed his hands on his hips. "Now, you have to carry the burden of the world on your shoulders." Jessica shook her head. "No, it was my fault. I should have been more vigilant, more careful." She looked down at her feet. "I should have listened and stayed on the farm." With a heavy sigh, she turns her gaze to her dad. "I have to go to Gotham to try to convince him to help me or he has to die." "Who, Jess?" "The humans were right... No one stays good in this world." The spirit of Jonathan watched his daughter with sad eyes. He always wanted what was best for her, now, he has to watch her struggle for the sake of humanity. He looked to Gotham City from across the city, Jessica looking out as well. "What are you going to do Jess?" Jessica clenched her fists. "I'm going to save mom." She mumbled. Jonathan nodded his head, looking down at his shoes for a brief moment then back up to the view ahead of him. "I miss you, Jess." He spoke solemnly, fading away into the wind. Jessica swallowed the lump in her throat, a single tear slipping down her face. "I miss you too dad." Crashes of lightning from Gotham brought her back to her harsh reality. Mentally preparing for her fight with Bruce, she knew, she would never be ready to fight the man she has feelings for.
