"What's wrong baby?" Leiny was using this purposely smooth sugar-dripping tone with him again. And she had this frowned expression on her face, too, all part of her performance of course.
"Stop it." His harsh tone deepened her frown. He was in no mood to talk with her. And he was definitely in no mood for her little games. He was too busy searching with his eyes for Naysha in the crowded room. He wanted to go near her, to explain to her that what she saw wasn't what it seemed. That Leiny ment nothing to him.
"I don't understand baby" she reached out to him once again, trying to pull him closser to her. He dodged her touch, his eyes still locked on the crowd.
And then he spotted her. She was still looking towards him with a painful look on her eyes. She turned, probably about to run away from the party. But she bumped onto some random guy. She was about to walk away from him, but then she froze in place. She lifted her eyes towards him, giving him a look he couldn't decode. And then she smilled at that stranger.
Oh no. She was getting back at him for seeing him with Leiny. He deserved any kind of punishment for hurting her, but this? This was too much, his canine teeth were already growing at the sight of her flirting with that guy. As for this random stranger, he was already dead. He would kill him and hung his lifeless body in the middle of the ball room, a warning about what anyone who dared lust over her should expect..but, no. He shook his head and sighed.
He had no right to do that. He hadn't claimed her as his mate. He hadn't marked her. Hell, he hadn't even explain to her what this strong pull between them was. As much as it pained him, he had no rights over her.
"Where have you drifted off to, babe? I'm talking to you!" Leiny's high-pitched voice and pouty expression took him out of his thoughts.
"I've already told you, leave. Me. Alone. It was just physical, Leiny. And it's over." He didn't care to stay near her for her, equally as fake, painful dramatic reaction, so he just stepped in the balcony.
It was a beautiful night, the sky was full of stars. The light breeze was warm. The smell of the forest exquisit. He should turn into his wolf and go for a run, like he used to do every time he needed to clear his head and make up his mind. But Hunter was still giving him the silent treatment for keeping him away from their mate. There was no way he would do him the favour of turning right now.
He leaned on the balcony railling and sighed. At least he could still enjoy the view and the silence, without being forced to deal with stupid she-wolves or his mate's painful payback. Out here he could pretend that Naysha wasn't in someone else's arms, flirting and dancing.
A soft moan reached his ears from somewhere on his left. He quickly turned his head towards the sound, sniffing the air like crazy, trying to figure out if it was Naysha. He sighed in relief when he realised that it wasn't her. But then he spotted the source of that sound. It was a couple on one of the other balconies, making out passionately under the moon light.
They were probably mates who had just found each other. It was very common in big parties like this. He envied them. He wished he could just declare that Naysha was his mate to everyone standing in that room and then spend the rest of the night marking every inch of her body, until she was covered in his marks and his seed was deep inside her womb. If only things were different between them. If only she was a werewolf or he wasn't the Alpha, then no one would care about the fact that she was a human. Neither she nor his pack would be in danger and they would be free to live together happily ever after.
A familiar scent paused his daydreaming. Anya? Her scent was coming strong from that couple's direction. Could it be that Anya was the one to find her mate tonight? Could it be her the one to passionately make out with that man on the balcony? Of course, it was possible, she was at the right age. But then again it was Anya. It was very typical of her to make out with just about anyone at parties. If they were humans, he would probably care for her behaviour. But for wolves, such a thing was absolutely normal, their hormones made their s*x drive way more intense, making it nearly impossible to control themselves. He deserved an award for managing to restrain himself as much as he did whenever Naysha was around.
He sniffed the air once again. And froze in place.
There was no way he was mistaken about this. The man that was kissing his sister was no other than Matthias Rossi.
Rubien Rossi's brother.
